When can I plant my gunnera outside?
Comments (7)Hmm, well, I have some experience with Gunnera and have done some reading on the subject, but I wouldn't call myself an expert. I've never contained one like that...would think it would be considerably smaller than having free roam in the ground...perhaps 3' (I've seen manicata in my zone at 12' tall with 5' wide leave) wide leaves max, well fed and watered. This is a guess. Someone else here might be more helpful....See MoreWhen/How low the temp should I bring my Cacti and Succulent in?
Comments (20)Im in zone 9 southern california (in a valley of hell named Perris) so alot of things can stay out during winter :D But there is, of coarse, those that need cold protection such as Kalanchoe, pachypodium, and Asclepiads. As of now, we are still having 90s during the day, and around 60-70 at night. Last year was really the first year i got into succulents, and i started to bring thing into my green house in mid october, and that is finally when temps start to get 40-50 at night here. The average winter temps here are around 40 at night, but sometimes it can dip to 26. We even had snow in 2007, and that is when i almost lost one of my beloved aloes D: Id say, bring them inside the green house is good for you right now, just to be on the safe side, as the temps are reaching 50 and lower. I really wish i could start having a cool down here......See MoreWhen is the best time to bring potted fig out?
Comments (7)Keep your tree quiescent - as cold as you can w/o exposing it to temps more than a couple of degrees below freezing, for as long as you can. There is no advantage in having them in leaf earlier than (mulberry) trees in the landscape. They are going to leaf out too early anyway, by virtue of the fact that soil temperatures warm sooner in pots than the earth warms in spring. You can't avoid that w/o refrigerating them, and who does THAT? Soil temperature is the stimulus behind the initiation of the spring growth flush. Al...See MoreWhen people bring their fundraisers to work -- What do you do ?
Comments (40)Our official workplace asks us to donate to the united way we get the envelopes, this is as far as workplace fundraising should go. There is no negative response if you don't, no one knows if you did or didn't so there are not any judgments on your character either way. Fundraising by individuals does not belong in the work place. Anyone who brings in such fundraising junk into the lunchroom at work finds it moved off the kitchen table and shoved on top of the fridge or the shelf unit in the corner of the room. Expecting co workers to pony up for your kid is not ok. If you want to walk you kids all over your neighbor hood or hit up relations more power to you. But I suspect many don't want to make that effort when they can just dump it in the lunchroom and guilt there co workers who they see everyday to just give them the money. Our department collects money at least once or twice a month for showers, going away gifts secret Santa etc. There are also people requesting to be sponsored for this ride or walk as well. Those fundraising say if you don't want to donate you don't have to. But when you don't what they really mean is why can't you just give us money everyone else gave whats wrong with you. They speak negatively about those who do not want to participate. It doesn't matter that you may not have the money to share or you don't want to give to that charity or school, or you already give to you own favorite charity. I ignore their request regardless of how they feel and move what ever it is away from the table. And let it be know that the table is kept clear except when you are eating at it....See Moremyermike_1micha
