Oh Boy, I think I Messed Up
Comments (10)I'd never turn down more cabinets, but I like your design (assuming you have a place for all your junk of course!). It's not off balance because the window wall isn't part of the cabinet assembly, kinda. You have an island. You have a Wall Of Cabinets and Appliances. And you have nice floaty window unit. It works. I would (and did) put drawers on both sides of the oven. You might want shallower drawers in the smaller cabinet for spices and things, but it's all a personal preference thing. Just be sure you have a spot for all your bulky items. You may be able to stick those things in the pantry. If you want something to the left of the window to balance it (not necessary I think) and there's going to be a bit of wall there as it looks in the picture, just plan to throw up some decorative iron scrollwork or a plate rack or clock or something. I think putting in a small cabinet would look goofy. You'd have to put in enough cabinetry to really shrink that window. And you don't wanna do that!...See MoreI messed up bad. Can I get my money back?
Comments (10)They probably won't bat an eye (as long as DH helps them get it out of the car). If they hem and haw, ask for a credit toward a different purchase so they don't feel like they're being abused. They really do get this all the time....See Moreto limb up or not to limb up...
Comments (13)As ya'll know, I've got a pretty high tolerance for so-called "messy trees". In fact, I tend to recoil at that phrase when I hear it, it indicating that I'm listening to a person with a very different take on things than my own. That said, there is one situation I'd be wary of: Having lots of pines right near to where you park your car(s). It's the pollen. Used to live in a place in Upper Michigan where the "yard" was all tall white and red pines. Man, I've got to tell you, when those male strobili were doing their thing, it was nothing for the yellow stuff to completely coat whatever was parked underneath these trees, which is right where our driveway was. In fact, these were big trees, and having moved the parking spot this way or that by a few feet wouldn't have made any difference. But that's one thing to be aware of....See MoreAm I overthinking it or did I mess up? Need some insight please.
Comments (130)I love the house color with the stone. I do agree that the shutters can go, maybe just “beef” up the trim a little so the windows look finished. The white trim isn’t awful but I would live in the house for a year and then decide..black trim could look nice with the other colors you have. Front door colors are a matter of taste. If you have a lot of green landscaping you may want to pull a shade of that to your door. If you have a particular color landscape, flowering shrubs and plants in a color you love,, you could pick a shade of the flowering plants to put on your door. I built my house a year ago. I have HardyPlank siding in Deep ocean blue, black trim , black standing seam metal roof and a chartreuse front door. I like to use plants (in planters and pots) around the front of the house that pick up the front door color. I get a lot of compliments on the color combinations and especially on the front door color. You are still looking at a building lot. Things will look much different when you have some landscaping, even if it’s just some bushes the builder puts in. Look at landscaping designs on Houzz, in magazines and Pinterest . You will see things much differently after living in you house for awhile. Take your time making decisions, your perfect home will come in time....See MoreNick Sulkowski
