You're definitely right. I've already decided that the mirror has to go. It's 8 years old. I spent most of the afternoon trying to find a new one. No success. I could repaint the frame (wouldn't deal with the style of it, however), or just put it in another room. I need something with a simpler frame in either gold or wood tone. If the mirrors at Stenella weren't so outrageously expensive, I would've bought one there. They had a couple at Homegoods that were fake bamboo, but they were too small or too over the top. I like the height of the existing mirror for reflecting light and breaking up some of the dark blue walls.

willowdecor - I just saw your bulter's pantry pics... and they are amazing!!! I love everything about that space! I'm now starting to rethink my addition/renovation design to incorporate a similar pantry... we will see. May I ask what the dimensions are of that room? In my home I have a similar problem, I ended up created an entry way sitting area that works amazing for my family. It is where we all sit to visit without a television so its a little more formal but also very comfortable. Random stuff stays out of there so I always have an "entertaining" space - no coats, purses, toys, etc - and the table is always perfectly decorated. I find that this is where I sit with my spouse and visit without interruptions from the television, too, which is nice.

What are the dimensions of the room, and the width of the bookcase? Could the bookcase go on the wall that we can't see, which is opposite where it is now? I ask because it seems that you have no room near the chairs, and I can't tell about the sofa, for end tables and any lamps. How much longer is the sofa than the 2 chairs, side by side? I'm asking that to see if there is more room for the other 2 chairs, rather than the sofa. Something along this line -
