Comment on Appliances Selection Under $5.5K
Comments (7)Bosch FD refrigerators in this price range all have external water/ice, I think. The ones without it are built-ins that cost over $6000. I agree with the poster who said a fridge without external water/ice can save you a lot of trouble with repairs and also is more likely to still look good 4 years from now. My aunt-in-law has a Whirlpool non-counter depth FD that looks fantastic and that she loves. They're very reasonably priced--here's a link: http://www.ajmadison.com/cgi-bin/ajmadison/GX5FHDXVY.html?mv_pc=fr&utm_source=google&utm_medium=base As for the MW, I vote for one of these Panasonics (see link). They look great--they can hold their own when surrounded with nice appliances like the ones the OP is contemplating--and ours works great; they get fabulous reviews on Amazon.com, too. I have a dual fuel but I agree that in this budget, it makes no sense. It would be better to save the money or put it towards something else (a decent range hood, for example? I don't think a microwave hood is going to cut it with a Bertazzoni or similar range). Here is a link that might be useful: Panasonic microwave to consider...See MoreA/C died and faced w/ $5K-13K bill. Need quick education.
Comments (11)For a second story, if you have a whole-house boiler already, I would probably just stick to straight a/c with an air handler. I say this because heat naturally rises, and having a secondary heat source, economically, doesn't sound like it would have a great payback on the second story. Do you have a thermostat for heat upstairs already, or just downstairs? If downstairs, upstairs should always naturally be warmer. The Carrier quote does not give you many options. The first option is a bare replacement, not even including a new indoor portion (just the coil inside). The second option is a complete Infinity system. The Infinity is a nice system, but by personal preference I tend to stay to the more simple systems (i.e., 13-15 SEER with variable speed indoor portion). The variable speed indoor unit can sometimes improve airflow to some rooms depending on present ductwork condition, and as you noted it also has a low fan-on setting (I think it comes from the factory like this but nevertheless it is an option for the installers to set). Depending on the thermostat you use, it has the ability to be configured to control (de)humidity (again, that's getting more fancy with controls). I like the American Standard quote (the equipment, that is) However it looks like this dealer too is just proposing a coil and not an actual air handler inside. Perhaps I'm confused as to what you have in the attic now (I'm assuming a fan coil/air handler - just a blower and a coil for a/c). When going to R-410A it is a good idea to flush the lineset/purge it with nitrogen. Surprisingly, some don't do this, and many times there won't be problems, but it is very good practice and any good company would know to do it or replace the lineset itself (which isn't necessary if proper size and in good condition). The second Carrier quote (most recent post) lists two good, reasonably priced options for a/c. With Carrier, those are the two units I'd look at (Comfort 24ACB330, Performance 24APA530). The Performance series unit is physically larger outside, if that makes a difference, since it's more efficient. Either of these units can be used with a variable speed indoor fan coil (model FV4BNF003/5). Comments (27)OK! Speed Queen, delivered and installed, all taxes, "in the house sitting where is needs to be with old machine gone" price: $2,812.57 - (Canadian) this one https://ca.speedqueen.com/products/front-load-washers.aspx?mn=AFNE9BSP113CW01#build-your-own Has induction motor! Wow! That is real - deal thinking -cap on engineering- 5 year all in warranty and designed for 20 years. Not denying Miele also has some real - deal engineering and I would admit Miele probably even a better build but not a tank like Speed Queen. Miele- excellent but too small for the 120 volt one, and quite a bit of money - I noted comment about doing laundry all weekend. It was at least $500 more and it was tiny. So it was out. Electrolux - suitable machine no doubt about it- more features- very easy to use controls- unlike 'guessing at kind of' on the SQ.. And Elctrolux has alight in it -kind of neat! - and steam clean - an excellent machine. and could be installed for at or about $1,200 all in. So why not Electrolux but Speed Queen? 1, Vastly and self- evidently better build quality; 2, This! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induction_motor...See MoreCost for Andersen 400 series French Patio Door
Comments (22)I think grewa002 is comparing sliding doors, the 400 is a step up and there french doors are more. Anderson has many lines of windows, id say some of them such as the A-Series are nicer which can be bought from Home Depot. highly doubt they are selling you a different door than the 400 Frenchwood available from Home Depot....See Morejhwilsonaz
