What can I graft onto a Montmorency cherry?

I have a Montmorency cherry that in my zone only gets to about 3 feet and then suffers tip die. It has never bloomed yet the root and remaining branches seem to have good winter survival. The top is another matter. I am on the verge of removing it unless I can graft another fruit onto it. Should I be concerned that the new fruit variety will gain some lack of hardiness from using the Montmorency as an interstem? And what would be compatible?
