Anybody close (that can come pick up) that wants to do some trading I have some potted palms, gardenias, butterfly bushes and a few other things I moving out to replace with items that took the storm alittle better. I will have plenty for the swap in october if your not close enough now but I just cant put out the posage cost with needing to replace all my tarps and fix the mist house. So heres what I have that I can help with or trade out: gardenias - miami supreme, august beauty ( cuttngs or trimmed plant) tri-color asiatic jasmine A few angels trumpet type unkown Robelini (pygmy date) Queen palm A few basjoo bannana butterfly bushes (different kinds) Purple Mexican petunia cuttings (easy to root) Would like to replace: a few crotons that were smashed (any kind) mine were just small ones I bought at walmart i think Could use a few blue porter weed to fill in a spot Anybody have a rooted confederate rose (still deciding if mine will make it or not but going to try... Lions tail mine WAS beautiful and then it was laying on the ground and flattened by a branch broken and dying (cut it back today at the ground and praying hard) My mints are semi-missing flattened out and crushed (same branch as above) I think thats inventory from today..

Hey Jeff - it looks like I will be bringing at least two kids, so can definitely help you out with whatever you need. I see that the gate won't be open until 8 AM, so even though it is only about 60 miles (??) will probably leave out of here about 6 AM - drive slow, try not to get lost, etc. :) But wanted to let you know for sure that the offer still stands - ANYTHING you need help with, just let me know okay? That's not a for-courtesy's-sake thang, for real - ANYTHING, just holler or point and grunt or whatever :) I'm bringing seeds... seeds... seeds... some fresh Brug cuttings (not rooted), some "peat pot pellets", I'm in debate on whether I should bring any hostas or not? They are plain jane Hostas, no variegation, not blue - just solid green shade-lovers and not a name-known cultivar... but I see them listed by several folks so I'm not sure how redundant hostas would be to bring? I saw someone had listed Lyre-leaf Sage to bring... and I suddenly felt stupid. Is this a plant that others would like? I mean, not that I dislike the plant, not at all - but it grows wild on the five acres here and I end up cutting it with the bush hog when I'm mowing... I hadn't actually thought of cultivating it. Should I dig up some of those??? It's native here in TN, I just ASSuMEd that "everyone" had it popping up in their yards. Hermit

Sorry if I offend anyone, but this issue comes up from time to time. The use of botanical names does not completely save confusion, but it sure does help. The elephant ears I am familiar with would be the haemanthus mentioned below. From the internet: Common names can vary from country to country, and region to region. The botanical names are used worldwide, and are established by the "International Code of Botanical Nomenclature". Unless you knew the botanical name, it might be hard to figure out which Elephant Ear you were talking about. Alocasia odora is a tropical plant from Borneo, and Asia. Colocasia esculenta is the common Caladium, grown from bulbs. Philodendron bipinnatifidum is the common houseplant, Philodendron selloum. Haemanthus albiflos is a bulb grown plant, belonging to the same family as an Amaryllis. Acacia dunnii is a 20 foot tree, native to parts of the United States, as well as Australia.

Here's one of mine overwintered outside last year. It is Musa sikkimensis and is growing in a 75ltr tub. The protracted cold snap in May killed off the main stem but left the three pups which are currently reaching slightly less than 2m tall. Tucked away there are lots of smaller M. sikkimensis, one multi-stemmed M.basjoo also in 75 ltr tub which also lost the main stem this year, and 10 Dwarf Cavendish but I am having difficulty getting clear shots of these. Everyone I know seems to have lost the main stems this year and in my case I think this was due to giving the plants too much water as they were in active growth when the late frosts came. I know you are not interested, but the tall cannas in the foreground are Ambassador struggling in 10ltr pots. Believe it or not there is a small pathway between the cannas and the bananas. The bush with the small red flowers under the banana leaves in the second photo is dwarf pomegranate Punica nana with 6ft tall cyperus alternifolia to the left.
