Ready made covers come in a very limited selection, in Your case a tan would be best choice and easily available in ready madea, If considering a custom fit slipcover, it isn't cheap and if cushions have to be redone, getting almost as pricey as reupholstering.

Oh mercy, thank you, now I'm not the only one who had a rug that's too small. How about a milk chocolate color, something like one of those squares on the floor? I think it would still go with the carpet and blend with the fireplace and window surrounds, but not be too dark. The only other color I can think of is sage green, but then you'd need some other things in the room to pick up that color.

Here are two fabrics I like for a slipcover with dark and light to balance the solids you have. I Missed that the rug is too small--how about a big sisal rather than 3 rugs?

The persian rug stays. The smaller sisal ones will probably go once I get settled.

Ok it is down to seven slipcover choices. Please help me decide! I am really torn, out of my league!! I have tons of matching colorful throws and pillows to jazz up any of these. Bear in mind my style is cozy granny. The Japanese wood block pictures will stay on the wall above the couch and be joined by more, I'm redoing that whole picture wall as soon as I find all the pieces. Will be a black and white and earth tones montage mostly. Lamp and stereo speaker will go in corner under window on top of bookshelves. Flat screen TV probably mounted on wall eventually under long window. Book shelving ends where it does because of heat vent but I will probably put a different lamp or round table or something in front of it next to the rocker to full up that empty space.

I'm leaning towards 2 and 7 but wondering if I'll be better off with a two piece cover.

Of the covers you've posted, I prefer the linen.

I had an old wing chair for which I owned 3 slipcovers (all Surefit): a red twill, a cream damask, and a brown stretchy. I liked the looks of the cream best, but the damask fabric seemed to strain too much at the seams, the twill always looked too much like a slipcover and faded badly in the wash, and the brown stretchy fit and looked the best --tight fit, no wrinkles. I think it was the same fabric as your #4. I would definitely go with a separate cushion. I used plastic PVC pipe on the sides and back of the cushions to try to maintain neatness.

Bemz sells slipcovers in a variety of fabrics. Most are for Ikea sofas but I'm pretty sure they have some to fit standard size sofas same as surefit does. But you probably don't want more choices :)

I like 5 & 7 but IME the ready mades look good only in pics and you have to constantly arrange and fix and tuck. Ask me how I know....

When I was a little kid, grandma had the couch slipcovered, little did I know. Only after mom got it and took off the cover did I realize it. We played "fort" and "pirate ship" all the time on that couch, it never came undone. I think grandma had it tacked/pinned somehow.

There is some trick with forcing plastic piping down between the cushions that helps keep them straight as well.

#2 or #7. Add a berry colored throw and pillows to give it color and not look like a white blob. "Cozy granny" Love it! :)

Is 4 a slip cover?

I actually like it. The question is how well it goes with the burgundy chair. Other than that, I like the linen. At least it's meant to look a bit slouchy.

Well, slightly off topic here, L, but you have reminded me that when I was little, I couldn't swallow my vitamins. I took them out of my mouth and pushed them down between the sofa cushions. The joke was on me when my Mom took off her summer slipcovers to find all of my vitamins. Oy. Who knew!

Great story Woodie! I guess I should order some swatches before I make my final decision. Also consult with SO. I know he is going to hate #4, he doesn't like "cozy granny" style at all! Although I know he likes that wine color. But he likes beige and brown too. Wondering about the linen one, there's some logic in using a slipcover that ANNOUNCES it is a slipcover, but I'm not sure if those one piece ones would be a continual sloppy problem. We don't have kids around to play fort on the couch unfortunately, but I lounge around on it almost every day when I am at the house. Even more so when I get a TV and stereo set up in there. My other grandmother had a chair with a slipcover, but that was just one big chenille thing with fringe on the edges which she had to continually tuck in and adjust. It had zero fitting though, and she didn't use anything to keep it tucked in. The grandmother that this couch came from (and the rocker in the room) had all her stuff slipcovered, and you would never know it. Even the rocker was padded and slipcovered to death, I had no idea it had the heart shaped carving on the back. The seat, back and arms were covered in padding tied down. That was the best rocker for playing pirate ship on! Anyway maybe grandma made those slipcovers herself, she was an inveterate seamstress. I vaguely remember big tacks with clear plastic knobs on them that I got in trouble for popping. Also maybe some pins when mom took the covers off. It's a 40 year old memory so I don't think it will get any more clear.

I just wanted to mention that I have been very happy with my Ikea Ektorp slipcovers, and I don't have an Ektorp sofa. The advantage is that they have individual cushion covers- the sofa comes with the base piece, 3 zippered seat cushion covers and two zippered back cushion covers. Unfortunately the Blekinge white cotton cover has been discontinued but they have around 4 or 5 others with a beige looking one at I think $49 plus shipping.

Number 2, classy looking

I use the ready made slip covers in a den, where the kids and dogs hang out. Have for years. Here to tell you that the stretch ones like #1,3,4 and 5 fit so much better and remain looking better than the cotton/linen ones. I've had those and it drove me nuts, the wrinkles, constantly tucking them in, etc. Just my two cents worth
