Need help on special HVAC project

Hello all!
I am desperately seeking some answers to my questions on an HVAC project I'd like to do. Okay, here goes...

I have a gas-fired space heater in the basement of a rental property in the Northeast (freezing pipes). Off the main basement, is a pipe-bearing crawlspace with limited access (3" opening). Try not to act surprised, but the pipes that are back in that crawlspace freeze routinely.

My solution is to install a run of 3 or 4" duct pipe from the crawlspace opening back to the main basement (primarily mounted between ceiling joists). This run of duct would have an inline booster fan installed.

Here's what I'd like to do. I would like to read the temperature in that crawlspace and have the duct fan (and possibly the space heater) turn on when the termperature reaches "x" degrees.
Right now, the space heater is thermostatically controlled with one of those old-school dial analog Honeywell units that were common decades ago.

However, with no means to pump the warm air into the crawlspace, the main basement warms up and is just fine, but the crawlspace isn't.

I'm envisioning a project that has a temperature probe (I apologize if I'm using the incorrect terminology) placed in the crawlspace that would engage both the duct fan and/or the space heater. However, I am having a hard time finding a product that will remotely detect the temperature in one room, and turn on the heat in another.

This building does not have wi-fi (it's a rental property), nor is placing something electronic (e.g. a thermostat) into the crawlspace as it is a hostile environment for for such things (cold and wet).

I want something that I can "set and forget." Does anyone know of such a product for this application?

Thank you in advance for your collective wisdom and experience!

Wes
