Black Spot on canes
Comments (2)Well, I am certainly confused. I thought the purplish spots weren't actually diagnosed yet. Did I miss something. Can you tell me where you read this? Rosepep, I don't mean to step in on your post, I just want to know about the cane thing too. Someone will surely get here with answers. I don't know where you are located either. Comments (5)I also buy mancozeb under the Bonide label "Mancozeb Flowable with Zinc". I have used the mancozeb once every 3 days for 9 days on existing blackspot. Then use it once a week for the next 4 weeks. Then I alternate Bayer and mancozeb every couple weeks. It did the trick and did not spread to other bushes, although I was sure to spray all my roses and the ground surrounding them because the bs can be there but not visible yet. According to the folks at Rosemania, mancozeb is the treatment of choice if the bs is already visible and to use Bayer as a good preventative. I live in Missouri and we have hot and humid summers. My neighbor's roses get blackspot...but not my roses....See MoreBlack spots on roses- cut all leaves? :(
Comments (20)To all the blackspot sufferers, I feel your pain. For what seems to be no reason at all, my Hybrid Tea rose bed came down with the worst case of blackspot I've ever seen. Finally switched to Bayer Disease Control for Roses, etc. after I realized realized Ortho Rose Pride wasn't doing anything and Daconil wasn't much better but very expensive. For some reason, the Bayer products seem to do a better job for me. Also using Bayer's Merit as a drench on an ash tree-ash tree borer is a BIG problem here-and after three years, so far, so good. Here's a question: Planted a Cornelian Cherry Dogwood this Spring about 30 feet away from the rose bed. Could it possibly be a host for the blackspot. I have started spraying it as well as it also has a fungus attacking. Just wondering... MM...See MoreMy roses died from black spot- now what?
Comments (2)there is a rose forum.. if you fail to get the answer here .... i doubt they died from black spot.....mildews are a function of hot humid nights... when the plant goes into darkness with water on its leaves .... when its ma natures fault ... there isn't much you can do .. except attempt prevention ... there are organic preventions.. i am sure someone will chime in ... i think its just baking soda .... increasing air movement.. and making sure you don't get water on the leaves late in the evening [from a sprinkler] ... all that said... if you are new to gardening... let me tell you this... you will not be considered a REAL gardener.. until you have killed each plant THREE times ... you are going to have to come to grips with the fact that stuff happens.. plants die.. and the garden evolves .... consider such losses to be part of the circle of life.. and a new opportunity to plant something else ... if the canes are still green.. there is a chance the roses might come back .... maybe not ... good luck ken PS: start getting pix of all your plants... so you can start getting ID's ... so that you can start learning about your garden .... something you can do all winter... so you can feel more at ease in the garden .......See MoreJessica Skelley
