Name That Plant!

Identification Needed for Plant Arrangement

Hi! My great-grandmother passed away recently, and after her funeral, I received a plant arrangement. I already grow a few plants in my apartment, but I struggle in specifically identifying plants that don't have provided information. Anyway, I'm hoping to get some help here so that I can research how to transplant and grow some of these plants. Any identification and tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

PS I'm new here, so please forgive me if my post is lacking anything.

I am sorry for your loss. Your plants should be easy to repot. They probably aren't root bound. Just put some newspaper down on a table and tip the pot over. Put your hand under the plants to support them. You can take a serrated knife and cut them apart or use your hands to gently coax them apart. I would put the peace lily in at least a 6" pot and the other plants in a 4" pot.

The large big leafed plant is called Peace Lily. The silvery one is some kind of fern. The trailing one is an ivy plant. They all require different watering. If you can repot them, they'd be better off.

I am very sorry for your loss.These lovely plants will be a nice reminder of your great grandmother. Your post is perfect.

The fern in the 3rd and 4th pics is a Pteris species, possibly Pteris ensiformis.

It is not knotweed......and it does look like a tree seedling (root shoot), what type I am not sure. But you will get faster and accurate ID's if you use the forum - Name That Plant - that is intended for plant identification. This is not the right place :-)

gardengal48 ........Whether it’s the Houzz app or working in a browser, there is very little here that works properly (although it’s certainly easy to make a purchase...surprise, surprise). This is by far the most frustrating app and website I’ve ever dealt with. And contacting support is completely fruitless. They don’t even respond anymore. So sad because they have a great opportunity for a fantastic site and app but no one seems to know what they’re doing and every change and update just brings new problems on top of the old. Can you hear my frustration :) I tried the Gardenweb link and it still did not work.

I checked one of my nurseries and they have a Cornflower but it's not the Purple Heart. In reading up on the Purple Heart it said that it is often confused with Amethyst in Snow. This one is definitely Purple Heart. I forget which Cornflower the nursery had but I think it was yellow/red. I really like the purple/white combination. Thanks again for all the help.

The ivy is more accurately called English Ivy, a Hedera helix cultivar. I don't know which one, as there are hundreds.

I agree that your pretty fern is a Pteris ensiformis cultivar, such as P. enformis evergemiensis.

the biggest problems with collections like this ... is two fold ...

first... the pot has no drainage ... so it wont make a mess at the funeral home ... this can lead to nightmare watering problems ...

especially ... secondly.. if two of the plants have diverse watering needs ... e.g. many ferns do not like swampy soil ... but the others might ...

once you get your IDs ... you should head to the houseplant forum ... and ask them how to break up this pot .... into 3 different pots ... and that way.. you will have 3 remembrance plants ...

or all three into a bigger pot with good media.. and drainage ... theres a lot of plants in that rather small pot ...

think of it this way ... this plant came from a florist ... it was made up.. for high impact and wow ...

a nursery .. where they sell houseplants.. might have done it much differently .... AND THATS WHAT YOU HAVE TO FIGURE OUT.;. FOR LONG TERM SUCCESS

The Peace Lily is botanically speaking Spathiphyllim and is not a true Lily. Your final picture shows a moss which is just for appearance sake to top off the arrangement. It's not intended to be grown as a house plant.

There is also a Maranta in the mix that can be seen in photos 1 and 5.

The fern..Silver Lace is the common name. So pretty. Separating is a good idea.
