Comments (9)This is the first year the prices have gone down so far, so fast. Usually it's like you described--they cut another buck or two off the price every so many weeks. I think a lot of it has to do with how much overstock they have at the end of the summer, too. My first year in Kansas (2004), the garden center was left with tons of product at the end of the season...in 2005, 2006 and 2007, the WM buyers ordered a LOT less. I had trouble getting the supplies I needed, in fact! Last summer and this year, however, they seemed to have big hopes for lots of gardening $$$...and again, they were left holding a mountain of product afterweard. Next summer, they'll probably have bare shelves again *sigh* For now, though, I'm grateful for the chance to stock up. Susan in Kansas...See MoreBargain Alert!
Comments (7)All I can say is WOW! The order arrived this morning, a day early. Everything was perfect! Packaging was flawless and the plants were absolutely protected. Each plant gets a mesh stocking first, followed by several wraps of brown craft paper. All were quite moist, and all pot medium was where it needed to be...in the pots. The quality of the plants is top-notch, especially for summer. Very little damage to foliage, and only a few of the larger items were at all pot-bound. I'm so impressed with Santa Rosa I sat down and placed another order for 79 more clearance items. When I paid with Paypal, they immediately sent me a partial refund, to cover the Duranta from the first order. First class product, customer service and prices!...See MoreBargain Alert!
Comments (16)Here I am, eavesdropping on another GardenWeb forum! I have a number of ornamental grasses in my garden, and I order my grasses and perennials almost exclusively from Bluestone. (I did get my M. Gracillimus at Lowe's - end of season sale.) I can say that my experience with them has been excellent. In over 6 years of orders, their plants have always arrived very healthy and have thrived under my gardening philosophy of Benign Neglect. I've overwintered hosta in the original plastic pots (bed wasn't ready - my bad!), and seen them sprout the next Spring. I've stored hemerocallis on my rather shady, weather protected porch for a month, planted them, and seen them bloom in the same season. I bought a flat of liriope for dry shade (and it was DRY!), watered them twice in the season, and saw them come up the second year even bigger than before. Obviously, the plants I received had to be very healthy, because no sissies are surviving in my garden! Bluestone's customer support has always gone out of their way to give advice, educate me, or just help me make a decision. On the occasion when a hosta arrived with pill bugs residing at the roots, they replaced the plant, no questions. They've spent time on the phone with me, indulged my emails, and generally let me know that they're here to make me happy. I've never found Bluestone's packaging to be an issue, although since I also live in Ohio I may have an advantage in that respect. It is unfortunate that, in order to remain in business, they've cut back on some of their specials (i.e., the 2-for-1 mentioned in one of the negative posts, and the % off), but I still saved 42% on my order this fall. I have the impression that they've become more focused on rewarding repeat customers. I had a book of coupons, one of which retained the original groundcover offer from previous catalogs, and was able to put together a VERY satisfying order for a very good price. My point to all this is that it's impossible to please everyone all of the time, and my personal experience with Bluestone has been nothing but good. I look forward to their catalog twice a year, and plan on being a loyal customer for a very long time -- especially during a sale! Carol...See More- 8 years agolast modified: 8 years ago
