Integrating oriental rug into grey-beige decor

I am wanting to start incorporating some grey colors into my decor. We recently sold our house (picture of old living room below) and are remodeling an older ranch house. The living room in our new to us house will be completely open to the dining and kitchen. Right now I am planning a white kitchen with subway backsplash with offsetting island color (yet to be decided). The floors will be a wood floors yet darker than the floors had previously as shown in the picture.

I have some nice oriental rugs that I paid too much for to replace and want to continue to use them in my new home.

I am open to replacing the sofa, loveseat and chair. The end tables and coffee table are Ethan Allen and are not that old - so I don't want to replace those either. The dining room has the same cherry colored round table with red and cream chair cushions, also Ethan Allen.

Do you think by changing the sofa/loveseat and chair along with new curtains that I can paint the walls a more grey-beige color and it will still work?

Also since we are doing a complete gut remodel of our new house, the fireplace can be whatever we decide on the front to help tie things together. Any ideas on that would be awesome too.

I am really having a hard time as all these rooms are open to each other and I want the design to flow but don't want to stick with the colors from before.

THANKS!
