Do we dare discuss a CT spring swap?
Comments (122)Hedy -- is the elecampane (inula orientalis) the same thing as inula helenium? I think I got a pot of that from you last year, which I promptly planted at the butterfly garden at Flanders. I just heard an herb person speaking about inula today, and am thinking I want one for ME this time, so would love it if you have some. Tina - I would love the butterfly bush. I was so sad to lose my Dark Knight this year. No idea what happened. Just suddenly dead! I think one cannot have too many butterfly bushes! ;) I have alpine strawberries (the really little, intensely flavored ones) if anyone wants those. Unlimited quantities. :) Also a ton of monarda Jacob Cline (I think ... ), garlic chives, obedient plant, tovara.. in the fall, I will have astilbes (they are new this spring and I don't know the colors until they bloom as they were a gift (all 27 of them!) from a friend. Everything is looking SOOOO good right now! Amazing what a little rain will do!...See Morenew: incredible edibles: spring fling swap
Comments (40)Glad y'all had a nice weekend, mine was rather busy! DH works swing shift, so we went out to breakfast instead of lunch or dinner. Spent the rest of the afternoon with the boys, and going around delivering goodies to grandmas :-) Sunday night I started some of my tomato seeds :-) Very exciting :-) Lol, I know what you mean about so many great looking edibles! I have a few orders out myself, and have been looking at a couple of other places that I think can get an order to me in a reasonable amount of time....so many places are so backed up this time of year...lol, all of us ordering seeds :-) I am fine with partners being posted sooner....See MoreWANTED: Ft Worth Spring Swap April 7!
Comments (150)Kristi-The jasmine is the native carolina jasmine you see blooming now. Beautiful yellow blooms, evergreen vine, my leaves turned a greenish purple, Mom's are in heavy woods so didn't get the frost I think and stayed green. Can be invasive, hers is in woods that haven't been touched for years til they moved in and it is up in the trees. I have had it on my windmill and it is easily trimmed back and doesn't grow 10 ft a day like my trumpet vine did! Sorry after digging at Mom's all day Sat. and then planting here all day Sunday, the muscle relaxers are in short supply! I AM IN PAIN TODAY! Mitch-- I would love some of your daylilies. I don't have any except the ones Sylvia is bringing me! I don't mind if they are unnamed, since I am just starting with them I will take anything. (And just call them pretty girls!!) Venessa -- I have a small box of quilting books from my Mom that I was going to put on ebay. I would love a repeat blooming rose bush (I think that is the term for an all summer bloomer) or one that is two toned. I don't know all the names you put down! Although from what I just wrote you should suggest one I'm not likely to kill!! I will email you with the names of the books I have tomorrow, you are welcome to them all. I would rather someone who wanted them have them!! Here is a link that might be useful:...See MorePlants for the Spring Raleigh Plant Swap
Comments (353)To follow up on our discussion of Helleborus foetidus with Karen and Judy at timestamps April 1-2. Our concern was to what degree the problems with dividing it extend to transplanting as a reflection of possible sensitivity to root disturbance. We are pleased to report that the extracted single plant that we obtained from Judy has done very well. It was first kept in a pot in deep shade the whole summer and watered well, even putting on some growth: It was planted out in the first week of November slightly raised with an extra layer of soil added around it (because of root competition in that bed). It is blooming right now: A couple of additional backup plants, obtained in that same batch but kept together in one pot, didn't make it through the summer, indicating that they are still quite sensitive to growth conditions, similar to the earlier batches that were planted out immediately in spring and died. In addition our plan B, to scatter in a number of locations the seeds obtained from Karen plus collected from local sites, turned out fully successful: we got germination of multiple seedlings at each location. So we may finally get some H. foetidus growing....See Moresylviatexas1
