How do I get this one to flower...
Comments (6)Borrego, Thanks for the ID. It is kept indoors, but then so is my mum's plant. Her plant is older, but it is not much bigger, it just has so many rosettes it fill the planter. I have a feeling it is putting all its energy into off-setting and not flowering. It gets full sun for most of the day, and my Haworthia is on the same windowsill and is flowering non-stop! May be it needs just one more year. Thanks Swiss...See MoreHow do I tell where next year's flower buds are set on my ES?
Comments (2)Hi Ostrich - I was wondering similarly, but on my old Nikko rather than ES. I've been observing closely as she behaved quite strangely, this season (despite a much better over-wintering & canes survival). Just today I found those little fat buds (at the nodes/petiole joints) very likely, our overnite temps dropping to 50s-upper 40s & lower temps lingering through noon, must have summoned them! Glyn Church's chapter 9 covers thoroughly the subject of pruning - when & how (diagrams included) even distinguishes between the fat buds which holds the 'flower heads' & the smaller 'growth buds'. Your ??? will be answered to satisfaction, plus more! I recently purchased Glyn's book for a gift & read through/took notes on pruning. Dirr's chapt.12 on pruning is not as detailed. You might want to get your hands on this book. Amazon has the more recent edition - I'm sure & should include pruning chapter as well. BTW Glyn says to prune in Winter or Spring - I guess if you do now those buds might just decide to emerge! Good luck!...See MoreHow Do I Stop CeCe From Digging in My Flower Pot?
Comments (19)I was thinking along the lines of some screen material, possibly the stuff you put down to block weeds on top and maybe some rocks on top although he might still play with the rocks, IDK. Cats usually don't like the smell of vinegar so a little cup of vinegar in there would likely keep him away. Even a vinegar dampened rag would still keep some smell there and not smell around the room. Another deterrent is a squirt gun, squirt bottle or a spray bottle set to stream and give a squirt when he goes near it. After a few times of getting wet, he probably will stay away from it, although if you leave for a while, he might just forget!...See MoreHow can I get my orange pigface to flower?
Comments (3)I love pigface, mine flowers well in full sun, where it is hot. It dies back in the winter. Its easy to takes cuttings, just snip a bit off and stick in into a glass of water for a couple of weeks. Roots will start to grow, and you can pot it up. If yours is not flowering wonderfully, or didn't last summer, I would just throw it out and buy another one !...See More- 10 years ago
