Swing arm wall lamps v recessed lighting in galley kitchen

Hi all,

i'm remodelling a pretty narrow gallery kitchen. On one side there will be open shelving, and on the other a range hood, some bare wall, and a section of floor-to-ceiling cabinets. I want to use swing arm lights with glass shades like this:

On both sides of the kitchen.

In the middle of the ceiling there's a solatube which gives beautiful even light in daytime.

Do you think I can get away with no recessed or surface mount lights in the middle of the room? I feel like putting light in front of you, cast down on to the counter, has to be so much better than light from behind you, casting a shadow onto the counter. Right now I have a strip of LED lights under the uppers on one side, the light from the range hood on the other side, and an overhead light in a ceiling fan, and I never turn the overhead on because the quality of the light feels really grim.

Here it is when I bought it--I've since moved the fridge to the other side of the room, and added a hood over the range.
