Input on laundry room expansion/remodel

We are planning to bump out our laundry room 6'. It's not a lot, but since it's the main door into the house from our (3 car) garage, the tiny space we have now is not working. Total space will now be 11' long X 8' wide. I do not plan on moving plumbing or vent for the dryer, but if it's imperative I do based on some advice on here, then I may consider it. Note: We are not losing parking in the garage for this - out garage is extra long.

My plan would be to put the door on the side instead of in the middle. Does that make sense?

Here are some things to consider:

Family of 5 - kids are 9, 8 and 3

Washer/dryer are currently on pedestals, but I'm not opposed to bringing them down to have counter on top

LT = sink. That can stay or go. I'm pretty ambivalent on that. Although with my kids sports clothes, it may be good to keep.

I want/need:

Counter space

Rod/rack to dry clothes

Mudroom/cubby organizer for backpacks, shoes, etc.

Place to put laundry baskets from bedrooms (we all have the same 18"X18" typical square basket)

I just really want a functional laundry/mudroom and hoping you guys can give me your thoughts!
