Underside of overhanging countertop question
Comments (26)@hallettco @Joseph Corlett, LLC suggested in order to hide an unsightly underside of a quartz counter overhang (in my case i have storage cabinets underneath and I can see what looks like several large orange rust stains) to seal and paint it. since it is not the finished top, but rough and unfinished do you need the sealer he recommended to get any paint to adhere?...See MoreBoring kitchen w/ Cambria Cranbrook quartz(Pics)
Comments (23)There are alot of things in that kitchen that are not attractive and that makes the attractive things not stand out. Our eyes tend to skip on things that somehow stick out and do not seem pleasant. So the goal is to eliminate what does not work before you make it better. Agree with much of what has been said. as you agree, the ceiling fan has to go. I also agree that wood valance has to go. black light has to go. Take everything off the counter and only put up one thing that is really lovely. The pictures are hung in a way that when I first saw them, I went "huh". I would take them out of the room entirely first. You also need to lose the pot hanging rack that has not so attractive acoutrement of cooking. If you want a pot rack, fill it completely full of really useful cooking utensils so that it says "we love to cook here". Another option is to only put up nice looking pots and pans only. Right now, it does not add but only detracts from the decor. I feel the same about the pendant lights. If you want to spend only a little money, get something that is completely neutral so they blend in. The potrack and the lights do not complment the room well. Your ceiling accentuates that you have not so good quality dry wall job. You either need to make sure you have a better paint job or pick a color that does not show the uneveness as much. This again makes my eyes see blemishes first before the beautiful things. A part of this is the picture you posted. But if it shows like this in real person, it may be contribute to the blah. Why do you have a chair rail on one wall but not the rest of the dining room? Again, it is off kilter a bit unfinished feeling. If you have chair rails, this is a great way to bring in a second color to the room, thus giving a contrasting color for visual interest. This is what I would do, take everything off/out that does not quite work. Then start adding one thing at a time and see if it works before adding another accent etc. Painting takes alot of work and is expensive. I think the paint color is doable as is. If you don't mind painting, I would go lighter. At Cambria website, they give you coordinaing BM color for each quartz color. Start from there. You have lovely cabinets and counterop. I think you will pull it together. With a little work, it will look beautiful. Good luck. Here is a link that might be useful: color match with cambria...See MoreUnderside of counters
Comments (3)DrollDavid - you are so funny. And you have got to be kidding.... if O' can't do it, who possibly could? Geesh, I can't even get treated nicely by people who care about my opinion - can you imagine the result in an adversarial political brawl? Ugly. There's a reason our best and brightest aren't federal politicians. But I'll take your vote anyway. :) [OTOH dh yelled at me in the depths of my depression pointing out that I'm not exactly part of the solution these days. It just looks so toxic in those waters...] Where were we? Yes, the plywood underneath is my problem rather than un/polished stone. I needed the additional support provided by plywood laced with metal, glued (though inadequately -- another story, that) bars. I just was focused on the job rather than the afterwards use of the space itself. There are so many vantages to juggle in this business! I am guessing, David, your kitchen is one amazing masterpiece. Are there pictures out there of it yet? (And if not why not...) Also, I am guessing you may have better-than-average luck in getting workmen to accede to your wishes. First off, you clearly research every step out the wahzoo. Second, you have the perspicacity to keep after one and all until you are on the same page about your needs, questions, desires, requirements, etc. Many of us cave long before this point. In my case there happens to be a deadline: I would like this house finished before my oldest leaves for college in -- could it really be just 5 years???????! Our DR has been in mothballs for so long (2 years) that the kids actually don't even remember it. Honestly.... there are competing time-frames at work here. I'd hire you as a contracting advocate! But most of us will never get the careful response you wrangle. Hats off......See MoreComparing Cost of Quartz Countertop Companies
Comments (91)The cost per square foot wholesale has the same relationship to you as knowing what the meat wholesaler charges the restaurant for the filet that you want for dinner. The important thing is how well the chef prepares that filet. All you really want to judge is that final bill, and what it covers. If the steamed broccoli is a side, or included with the meal is irrelevant if one restaurant is known for serving shoe leather. Any prices in this thread are going to be completely irrelevant starting right about now. Expect a minimum 15% price increase, due to the tariffs. Some will have more than a 15% increase, as the labor of stone fabrication has stayed fairly stagnant now for over 10 years, and this is the time to rectify the labor market. It won’t be just quartz that is affected either. Most stone is imported. Most tile is too. Almost everything construction related is already high due to the hurricane rebuilds starting last year, and we now have another massive rebuild staring us in the face as well....See Moremeghans10
