Thanks all! June & blond, I hear you on leaving it, but the cabinets themselves are pretty beat up (prior owners had young children who, they told us, enjoyed opening and slamming them - lots of chips and peeling veneer). We could reface them, or swap out the fronts. Our appliances are also going - in the last two weeks, our dishwasher and fridge both gave out (we're using a minifridge for now). I'm just so grateful the oven hung on through Thanksgiving! I love these color suggestions - agree contrasting countertop would give it a nice pop.

How long are you planning on staying in your house? While I do believe people should have what they like in their houses, I also believe that Brazilian Cherry is a pretty specific style choice that would cause your home to take longer to sell. I saw this in the town I moved to 18 months ago. While I was looking, there was a house on the market that lingered much longer than other comparable homes, and I think it was because of the floors. The house was in very good condition, in a good location and priced correctly, but the floors didn't look good in the pictures. It's a unique look. If the time to sell isn't a deterrent, keep in mind that the purchase price may also be affected. If the buyer doesn't like the floor they will reduce their offer by the cost of replacing it. As some other posters have pointed, out, some people really like it, but more people don't. But if you're planning on living in the house until you pass on or go to a nursing home, do whatever you want! :-)

focus on changing backsplash and new pendants over the island. If you can pry off the 6" molding as you pass to dining room that would be good...otherwise paint it same as the wall color to blend better. I would do these things then re-evaluate. If the kitchen is truly in the center of the first floor as it appears..... it would be nice to have seating at the island as this is your HUB ..I think. this would mean removal of the back cabinets and get a new top that provides overhang and add stools....or however the island can be reconfigured dependent on dimensions there....seems like a big space to have missed the seating element. here are some seriously modern pendants. yours are kind of "party pom poms " or something... not really the right scale or the the right style either.
