Living Room / Dinning Room - I need your help
Comments (16)I think it would be fine to change the sand color to Olive Branch. If it's too much, it might be nice to select a lighter, color and consider making the paneling area above the fireplace this color. I agree the scale of the pictures is too small. I think it would be nice to anchor the dining area with a large painting. The bigger the better to fill some wall space. Right now, the furniture seems to be arbitrarily placed throughout the room so I think you should rethink the floor plan. I would place the sofas on either side of the fireplace. I would move the tv to the small wall and hope that it sits below the wall and doesn't stick out. Right now, it's fighting the natural focal point of the fireplace. Now, the concept of Spanish/ Mediterranean. When you continue this space, think heavy, think furniture. Contrast is important in this style so consider black wrought iron details, perhaps a wrought iron chandelier for over the dining table and some sconces for the living area. It might be nice to consider tapestries for the area. When I suggested a lighter color earlier, it might be appropriate to think a tan or an orangish hue that is found throughout this style....See Morei need some direction for our living room chairs
Comments (11)thanks ladies. couple more thoughts based on your responses. first, i have 10 chairs for my dining room, and the table won't accomodate more than that, so that was a really creative thought but not applicable in this case. second, i know neither of my existing chairs are a good look as is. both would need to undergo a serious transformation. i was hoping to get some cool ideas on the type of transformation. i'll get the ball rolling. so, the pair that i have are gliders. while i love that they glide (especially with 2 little ones), the skirt is not cute but necessary to cover all the glider stuff. what if i removed the glider mechanism from the bottom and added pretty legs? and when i recover, i could tuft the back. i'm still stuck on color but i feel like i could live with this look. yay? nay? other ideas?? i totally get it - it'd be nice to have infinite choices from a design/decor perspective, but it feels so wasteful to buy 2 new chairs when i have these 2 in great condition. that said, i could use these 2 chairs in our master bedroom - maybe, so if you talk me out of it for the living room there's still hope for them. :)...See MoreHelp! I need ideas on how to finish decorating my living room
Comments (74)Curtains would be a good idea. Even though you have blinds for privacy, curtains make the windows look finished. A little eyeliner besides the mascara. I would not do a colored curtain here. Curtains are just to darn expensive to have to switch out when your color palette changes. I would suggest white or off white, whichever you prefer in a silk or silk-like fabric, and get a marvelous trim for the edge. The edge trim can be in a white and black or whatever color you want to take from your rug or elsewhere in the room. I would not do a curtain trim in gold here because I see 4 windows, for 8 panels, that would be a lot of gold. You want tasteful gold embellishment in a space, not Liberace in Las Vegas. Here are some examples of trimmed curtains. Buy the plain curtain, and then buy the trim of your choice, and buy extra trim to embellish throw pillows, and buy coordinating different scale trim for other throw pillows. Another curtain option is a white curtain with a subtle pattern woven or printed on it....See MoreHow to layout living room when it's also a guest room? I need advice!!
Comments (3)I would use the den as TV area with TV between the built-in bookcases. Then do a back-to-back arrangement with two sofas (they don't have to match) and a rolling sofa table between them. The one in the den would be the guest bed. When you have guests, simply roll the sofa table under a window and close the sliding door. As an office, place a desk facing the window if you need good light for online conferences, or put it on the wall if you don't do that. A rolling desk chair can move out of the way for the sofa to be opened. In the living room side, use a round dining table in the corner right of the fireplace. A coffee table 12-18" from the sofa and perhaps a pair of small scale upholstered armchairs in an "L" with the sofa, their backs to the window. Art, not TV, above the mantel....See Morel pinkmountain
