Would it be good for me to water my citrus with fish tank water
Comments (37)Dogma is holding firm to the belief that something could neither be a conceptually or practically superior practice because you believe something else seems to be satisfactory - 'works for me'. Old beliefs are like a pair of old shoes - we often value their comfort so much we tend to ignore the fact they're full of holes. Almost everyone prefers the relative comfort of belief to the exercise of reason because believing is easier than reasoning; which brings us full circle to why there are so many more believers than thinkers. My $.02 I'm pretty sure you're not suggesting that a haphazard approach (a little of this and a little of that, even though I know neither what the plant needs nor what I'm giving it) is a superior approach to a well-reasoned supplementation plan. Discounting all reason because we're satisfied with the status quo is self-limiting by default. BTW - if Punky's trees are in pots (don't think that was made clear), moving closer to how nature does things is an exercise fraught with obstacles. Growing in the ground and growing in pots are widely divergent cultures. On a scale of 1-10 with growing in the ground being a 1 and hydroponic growing a 10, conventional container culture is probably a 7 or 8. Al...See MoreWhat would you do with a plant rooted in water?
Comments (9)I've had fairly good luck with planting water-rooted plants (mostly Pothos). I always re-use my old soil as well, so it's not like I'm "babying" them. They enjoy a nice, bright window (not direct sun), and a good soaking every two weeks or so. Don't over-water them. If the leaves turn yellow, the plant is too wet. If they turn brown and crispy, it's too dry....See MoreFrozen Water Pipe Bursts, Water Everywhere, Heck!
Comments (28)Kswl, I'm so sorry, but amazed you've come through this with your sense of humor intact. You have a great GC! Buy his wife flowers. Here in SC we've got a bit of a situation here at the marina. It's gotten down into the teens for a couple of nights running, and while the marina staff turned off the water to the docks Sunday and opened all the valves at each and every spigot on our power stands, the pipes didn't drain sufficiently and there are shattered water pipes on every dock and the main dock. I think they're going to have to replace all the water lines. Meanwhile we have no water to the boats. On our own boat we're having problems with our water pump, and we've got to keep our hot water heater running, because we're afraid our own water lines will freeze. We can't run water continously because our water tank is finite, only half full, and who knows when we'll have a water source again from the dock. I'm ready for this weather pattern to abate....See MoreIce and Water in Door, would you do it again?
Comments (44)I don't have it at home and never have but I have it at my weekend lake place and I did it again there when I got a new fridge up there. 1. What style of refrigerator do you have? (FD, S/S, CD FD, bottom freezer, etc.) I have a side by side in both places - home is 42" built-in, lake is 36" regular depth 2. Would you get it again - yes or no I did get it again at the lake place - would never get it at home 3. Why or why not Reason I got it again at the lake place is because we have a lot of visitors in the summer and it gets used alot. Also people for some reason have evolved into not being willing to drink water out of a faucet. So they take two sips from bottled water and then waste the rest. I stopped offering bottled water and direct them to the ice/water dispenser and they go along with that. 4. What do you like best about this feature? Above - guests seem to like it and I personally like lemonade with crushed ice in the summer and it makes good crushed ice. 5. What do you dislike most about this feature? It's kind of a mess - unsightly mineral deposits in the bottom, ice flying out on the wood floor, water dribbling down the front of fridge, etc. Another drawback a friend recently pointed out - if you have the ice dispenser in the door - as I do. Her power went out for a period of time - ice melted and water leaked damaging her wood floor....See MoreStacie H
