Radiant heat help please...new here!
Comments (3)You ripped out the old heating system before you investigated costs for a new system? Not good. You don't mention how large your house is, but a 1950s ranch, say about 1,500 to 2,000 square feet... Acutally, that price sounds like a decent price. I've seen it cost FAR more to install radiant in an existing home....See MoreHydronic Floor Radiant Heat Help
Comments (2)The ell of our house with kitchen, pantry and dining room has radiant floor heat. It has its own thermostat and several loops feeding off one manifold. We don't change the heat there over the short term. We might turn it down if we will be gone for a week, but we don't change it over the short term. In our baseboard heat in the rest of the house , the radiators change the heat fairly quickly since the water directly heats the air, but the radiant floor heat first has to raise the temperature of the floor and then the floor raises the temperature of the air above it, so it's a much slower process. I don't find that the rooms heat more than a degree above or below the set temperature. With 3 windows and high ceilings, you have a large air mass with heat loss through the windows, so your time to heat the bathroom from a lower temperature will always be long. To my mind, it makes the most sense to keep the bathroom temperature at whatever heat you like and leave it there. It's the nature of radiant floor heat to be easier to maintain temperature than to quickly change temperature....See MoreHelp! on Radiant Heating
Comments (3)In real cold parts of the country and where gas or propain is cheaper then electric you can use a tankless water heater becuase of the low flow rate and low temp. you can use a tank water heater also. I just priced out a 1,100 sq ft home. Using a th2 from takagi with a primery secounday loop of a price of 8,000 for the install of the boiler and 11,000 for the install of the radiant which included all climite panels....See MoreRadiant Heat & Geothermal in Midwest, Questions..... Comments (10)WaterFurnace is a premier brand of geothermal HP. I have installed geothermal HPs that do both hydronic heating & cooling without central forced air. You could install a Synergy3D with a natural gas boiler for hydronic in-floor radiant backup and possibly DWH after a desuperheater buffer tank. This way you'd always be assured of heat even for extended periods below 'design temperature', compressor lockout or an extended power failure, as a relatively small generator would be capable of powering the (gas) system including the in-floor radiant circulators & backup system controls. You could also go all electric with the Synergy3D but you'd need backup electric elements in the plenum in case of compressor lockout or extended periods below 'design temperature'. This option would precluded generator backup for heating unless you installed a massive generator or unless you had some other heating option, such as a fireplace. IMO SR...See Morechisue
