Oh, I think a blue would be lovely and would tie the rooms together nicely.

Sounds like you have plenty of light, lots of white trim and a deep rich floor. I'd love a deeper (tan) wall. Blue is my favorite color but I personally couldn't see it in my office...but maybe you can :)

If you have a lot of trim, go with a very saturated color. It will be gorgeous.

If you spend hours in there writing, seems like you want a color with some energy to keep you alert. (Do you have any pics of the room?).

Blue is a very calming color, so not sure it's a good idea in a work room.

How about a sage green?

It's a hard room to photograph, since it's so small. This is taken from the kitchen looking through the entryway to the room. There's a little two-foot long entry space/mini-hallway between the two rooms.

This is taken a few steps away from the opening to the room, so you can see the windows. The wall to the right is solid.

The floor isn't in yet, but imagine wide slats of chestnut in a warm brown. It's a very bright room--I really love it.

Look at Revere Pewter, its a greige. Or maybe Gray Owl. Or if you can go a little brighter, maybe Quiet Moments.

Someone here did their home office in SW Artichoke, and it came out beautifully.

Ask yourself how you like to feel when you're writing. That will also lead you in the right color direction.

Is there a color that might inspire your writing? I would think buttery yellow might be good if I wrote about cooking, my friend writes more "shades of gray type novels" but pretty sure she would pick romantic tone. Or a sage for gardening etc

What a pretty room! Echoing others' suggestions with lighter colors ... I did our office in Laura Ashley Olive (I think #4), and it's too dark and heavy. I think sage green or buttery yellow would be lovely. :)

My office is a green the color of Wedgewood jade jasperware. It's refreshing on the eyes when I look away from my computer screen. It goes well with light and dark woods and with white trim.

If you want something bright and cheerful with a barest touch of yellow, look at PPG parchment. I painted my bedroom that color and love it. It's both uplifting and restful. It's a room where the sun always seems to be shining, even when it's not.

For a wonderful green, look at BM soft fern.

I'm loving all these suggestions. Quiet Moments struck me as particularly lovely, and Soft Fern is incredibly soothing.

I'm going to have to think about the idea of reflecting how I feel when I write, or at least how I want to feel. I was trained as a journalist, and there's this tough newsroom ethic that you can write anywhere, under any circumstances. I think I've brought that idea to my own office, that the space doesn't matter, and filled it with mismatched furniture, stacks of books of papers, and billboards crammed with post-it notes. I actually wasn't going to change my office at all until I realized they had included replacing the floor in the bid already (so why not!) and the walls really needed to be repaired because removing the old door frame damaged the old plaster. Now I've got this cool mostly-new space and the last thing I'm going to do is stuff it with my old junk. Maybe after writing three books I finally believe I'm a real writer enough to deserve a nice office!

Agree with others re: BM Soft Fern.

SW Jersey Cream is a wonderful soft yellow, perfect with white trim. It also looks great with other accent colors. I have it in a guest room, paired with black iron headboard, red buffalo check drapes and dust ruffle with white comforter. Everyone loves it! It also goes great with blue, as well as walnut color door and trim.
