Let The Season Begin !
Comments (29)LOL, it' always grows greener on the other side of the fence. My plants' leaves have been wet for 10 days straight from rain and 85%+ humidity practically 24/7. But in one week this place should really be hitting its sweet spot. The night-time temperatures are far from perfect since the plants are in fruit setting mode, and not late season grow mode. In a week though night temperatures will drop below 75F and if it stops raining weather will be perfect for the plants that survived the great deluge. Next time under shelter!...See MoreLet the bloomin' season begin ...
Comments (17)Thank you all for looking and commenting! Joanna, that's a NOID dyckia in the foreground. I love how the bright orange blooms set off the gray leaves. Your're correct about that being a Euphorbia next to it, a 'gopher plant' in this case. Susan, I'll send you a message through Howzz. Marti, the tree in the 3rd photo was labeled Texas smoke tree . I love this little multi trunked tree for it bright lime green spring foliage which turns bright yellow in the fall. Texasgin, the tall blue flower plants are the rediculously-easy-to-grow Larkspur. Just plant a six pack, let them go to seed and you'll have them for evermore. They bloom until early to mid summer. With the rain this year some of them are 6 ft. tall! I start pulling them when they are done blooming, waiting until some go to seed which I shake around. The seed sprouts in the fall and spends the winter as a rosette. They bloom in white and pink also, but I pull them as I only want the blue. Now I hardly ever get anything but the blue ones. If you're not talking about either of the two dyckia plants which are blooming the other orange flowered plant is Gray globemallow, another easy to grow plant. Pam Penick features them in this blog. Oh happy day -- we're getting some rain in San Antonio this morning....See MorePlant Out Diaries ... Let The Season Begin !
Comments (30)daniel_nyc(7a) sey, what about the EARLY tomatoes ? How's everything ? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Daniel, This year I did not go with the early picks so much, like last year. The only one from last years EARLY group returning is SILETZ. Last year I had : == BLOODY BUTCHER, MATINA, EARLY TREAT, STUPICE, SILETZ., SUN GOLD. My selection/theme this year has NOT been based on the early fruiting but VARIETY. I picked BIG BEEF, eg, because I've read so many positive reviews on its taste and productivity. It might turn out to be the earliest for me. Talking about varieties : I have FOUR orange/yellow, EIGHT brown/black/purple/ bi color and many more reds. All together over 30 varieties. of which 5 or six are dwarfs, growing in pots. OK.. Now that we /you are in plant out mood, let me ask you, if I may : ,Have you decided what you are going to grow ? How many varieties, how many plans ? GOOD luck and let the season begin ! Sey...See MoreLet The Season Begin!
Comments (13)You're fortunate to have gotten the rain. A lot of plants have heavy scaping here. It is possible that we will escape the short-scape syndrome being experienced farther south. Perhaps our plants were not that developed when the March cold snap hit....See MoreJohn A
