Comments (3)Here is a photo of Lenox Tan in Aura formula, Ben Moore. It is in a north facing bedroom with morning light in the photo. I have posted another pic in "Favorite rooms" along with this one: http://photos.gardenweb.com/home/galleries/2008/11/benjamin_moore_lenox_tan_in_au.html It's a lovely color and looks good against the white trim without being too bold. Has a bit of a gold undertone but very subtle. Good Luck!...See MoreToo much white if I paint these cabinets white? (Pics)
Comments (21)My first thought was to go with a darker color -- black, chocolate brown or maybe green since the OP says some greens. I'm not a huge fan of oak, but these have more character and the only thing I really don't like about them is the hardware. Unfortunately, changing that and placing it properly will probably require painting. Going with white or a lighter color is more of a challenge because of the grain in the oak. Paint and grain seem to look better in deeper colors. I don't see the glazed look you are talking about looking good with your white. I also think it would replace one dated look with another and you might tire of it quickly. You probably want a brighter feel and thing dark cabinets will be darker. There have been a number of kitchens done with black or cocoa cabinets -- some in combination with white or cream uppers, that looks so bright and fresh. The contrast is so crisp and fresh that it creates a different look. Accent it with brushed stainless or something similar in your hardware, appliances if or when you replace them (or look into painting or getting panels for them if you prefer that over white), and possibly even in your small backsplash (it can be an inexpensive, designer look). I think it would feel a lot crisper and brighter, even though the cabinets might actually be the same or darker. When you do paint, I would think about taking down the valances over the sink and fridge. Take the shutters off and put a fabric or woven shade at the top of the opening. paint the area above the vent to match your cabinet or create a chalkboard there and put a fun saying on it -- but carry that color all the way to the ceiling. If you want the area above the fridge lower (a new fridge some day might be taller, but for now....) use a simpler piece of trim, no scallops. Consider a hanging rod for utensils in that little niche you have behind your cooktop. Update the accessories a bit and add a splash of function and/or color....See MoreToo much furniture! Comments (9)Holy moly, so many great ideas and feedback here. Thank you all so much! And boo - I spent a lot of time trying to decide on window coverings for those weird skinny windows, LOL. As least they're cheap JC Penney shades and won't hurt too badly when I replace them. I like the dark wood trim and didn't want to cover it up, so that's why I chose those and not curtains. But I heard everyone loud and clear. ;) Storage definitely is an issue with this house - there's exactly none. All the storage space was sacrificed for a big open feel, and even the closets are postage-stamp size. Thus the big old coffee table thing (storage!) and the entertainment center (storage!) and the end table (you guessed it, STORAGE!). I love the Besta idea, though! Didn't even know something that cool existed. I am worried that placing the main seating against the half-wall will put the seated person too far from the TV; I do a lot of gaming so I tend to sit closer for full immersion. I was considering moving the seating way closer to the TV, which would create a big space by the half wall, and then putting a narrow table or something back there, i don't know. I'm so terrible at this stuff, that's why I'm so glad Houzz is a thing! A sectional, huh? How does one find a sectional that doesn't scream 80's media room? Off to google I go... :)...See MoreRelated Professionals
