Is it too late to throw seeds outside?

We've got snow on the ground, I meant to scatter some seed in the Fall, and forgot. I have a really dry yard and mulch a lot, so I'm not so sure there are good conditions for reseeding, so wondering if it is a waste of time and seed. I can start them in winter sowing containers instead and maybe that would be best. But very tempting to just scatter them and have less to winter sow. [g] Here is the list of seed I have that might work for scattering….

Cosmos

Lupine

Snapdragon

Larkspur

Alyssum

Aquilegia

Portulaca

What would you do? Also any advice on technique for scattering seed. I thought I could just scatter on top of the snow, where I want to see them next year.
