It's November - How's Your Build Progressing
Comments (38)Well we are moving along - I hope that December will be our last month posting in these threads. We had our utilities hooked up over the last few days - today the gas lines were being set. I thought I would post a few photos updated our progress. So far the biggest delays have been the concrete polishing. We originally choose a finish polished to 1500 grit and after seeing the bathrooms and laundry room done to this level we decided to scale it back a bit and do more of a satin finish of 400 grit. In order to go to 1500 grit we would need to polish deeper into the slab which would reveal more aggregate and we didn't like that. Knowing that now we might have spread special glass or decorative aggregate when the slab was poured. The 400 grit finish is still very shiny, and while not perfectly flay is a bit easier on the eyes, and in the long run may be more forgiving for cleaning. Photos Below... Comments (6)Sabrina -- sounds like we're in about the same place. So far, getting our two houses ready to list is the hardest part -- the rest is pretty exciting! Stanley -- you'll be graduating to the How is your Build progressing soon! Be sure to come back and visit here! Cpartist -- just figured out your name -- colored pencil artist! I've been following your progress and sounds like you hit a home run on the additional land! The slight delay that may cause should be well worth it! You are probably still ahead of us. Just depends on how lucky we get on getting this house sold. Our rear rendering (front was on previous thread) Looks big, but remember this is a duplex -- left side of this pic is our side and the right is for DD and DSIL. Total square footage is about 5071, not counting unfinished walkout basements, divided about 2630 (us) and 2440 them. Edited to add: KTDH -- time flies -- I promise! Sounds like you are building from a distance like us. We're here now, but won't be back until Memorial Day week. Comments (147)cslaughter27 regarding appliances: I had a lot of problems with a new Samsung fridge and range in a previous remodel. For our new house, I went with the Kitchenaid with the pro looking handles. I was very close to going with the JennAir, with the current rebates the price difference was only a few hundred btw at a local appliance store. Then I was on the best buy website and saw the fridge as an open box with "like new" condition at a nearby store for almost $1K less, buying online did not offer delivery so I was a little hesitant at first. I chatted with the online rep and confirmed that if I did not like I could return with no issue, no restocking fee etc. I went by the store over the weekend to look at my purchase before arranging for someone to pickup, I saw an identical fridge for several hundred less than even what I had paid. I looked mine over and chatted with the sales manager, he agreed to reduce mine even more and since I added 2 more appliances I received all 3 for the 10% off. Total savings was over 2K less than the "best price" I could get from another local store during the presidents day sale and I don't have to wait for any rebates to show up on some prepaid debit card. There are no dings, dents, scratches etc and they wrapped it up while I was there and moved it to the back to wait for the delivery date. BB had free delivery AND install, also their 5 year warranty was less because the total price was less, that added to several hundred more in savings btw. Even if you are not interested in a display or open box item, it may be worth your time to go into the store and talk to them they may have more pricing options that what is available online....See Moremojomom
