update: update: iris--all my blooming friends
Comments (41)Hi all, My pkg. from Carol was waiting for me when I came home today: ) I It was filled with all kinds of good stuff! She sent me a wonderful 10 iris assortment. a White Japanese Yellow Flag Honey Glazed Superstition a pretty purple a red Beverly Sills a light blue heirloom Arctic Snow and Champagne Along with all the iris she sent a couple of frogs(figurines not live ones, lol) a bathsoap set a lavendar/vanilla candle a dog magnet- my husband already put it on the fridge. and a flag pin- she must of remembered I collect pins! oh and the hat! I told my husband he has to take my picture. Thanks Carol for such a great box! I did get all the iris potted tonight, so I happy about that. My husband even asked what he has to do after the operation for all the plants. It is very sweet of him, but very funny. I'm thinking don't you notice me dragging the hose around after work? lol. It is a very simple procedure. Sue/GiverNY4me, I'm glad I'm not boring you: ) I looked up Felder Rushing. He sounds like an interesting guy. I drove out to Rochester alone to the big garden show there, but I specifically went when Brent of Brent and Becky's bulbs was speaking. So I find it perfectly normal for you to go see Rushing: ) You'll have to let us know how it was after you go. You know I was thinking for all the people in this group with heath problems we should of called ourselves the Old Broke Down Buddies or something lol. Remy...See MoreWanting to update my bedroom
Comments (11)I would love to see a richer green on the walls, something more the depth of the trim on the comforter. After you paint, the next thing I would do is change the window treatments. I would like to see heavier panels (to balance the weight of the heavy furniture) that are wider, so that the inside of each panel sits on the outer edges of the windows when the panels are opened. This would then allow the one behind the bed (and the other should match) to be as wide as the bed is. It will make the bed feel like it fits in front of the window, rather than making the window feel awkward. I would also hang them halfway between the trim and the ceiling, to bring some interest up in the space to balance the height of the armoire. I would not change the headboard to iron. Once you get the curtains wide enough behind it, it will be perfect. Is there any way you could move the tv to the wall where the round iron piece is hanging? I see the cable connection is currently below the tv, but they are usually very inexpensive to move. We did it here in two rooms, and it was a very small charge. Then you could set that cute table on that wall, which would put the focus up higher and not on the heat duct at the floor. If it is not possible to move the tv hookup, instead of spending money on a cabinet to hide the tv, think about perhaps looking at an inexpensive flat panel tv down the road and mount that on the wall. No cabinet or table needed then. You can then put the taller of the two floral arrangements in front of the plugs and cable hookup, and contain the cords in a cord cover painted the color of the wall. For now, I would put the shorter of the two arrangements under the table, put the taller one in the corner by the closet where the chair is, and move the chair to where the two floral pieces are. I would get a more substantial bedskirt - the one you have is too lightweight imo for the bedding and the furniture. I would also love to see a decorative pillow to break up the pattern of the comforter and shams a bit - perhaps a creamy background with some type of pattern that pulls the colors in. Does the cedar chest have to stay? I think it is charming, but I would love a clear view of the bed and bedding without the wood in front of it. If you need to keep it there, down the road look for a larger rug that can sit a bit under the end of the bed and is at least as wide as the bed. The little green one looks, well, little. :-) Love the painted dresser in the bathroom. I would paint the little towel bar/cabinet over the toilet in black to match the dresser. A couple of pretty botanical/rose framed prints would be nice on the wall to the right of the vanity. As for the mirrors over the dresser, I would take them down but save them - you never know what you might want to do down the road. I could see one painted black and hung elsewhere as a mirror over a smaller table, for example, in an entry way. I would get a mirror to hang in the center of the dresser wall area, then wall sconces on either side to fill the space a bit. This mirror might be great - the colors are pretty, and the shape echoes the center panel of the dresser door: casbah mirror...See MoreFor Red - My Bedroom update
Comments (18)Funkyart, I don't think you are being a baby or unreasonable at all over something that was so exciting to look forward to, yet such a disappointment when the color and the alterations were not what you paid for. Even when something is a 'deal' it's hard to get past it if you feel that you were not well-treated. Look at all the people online who have had a friend or relative give them a super price break on tiling, or flooring, or painting, and then the job is not as promised. A deal is only a deal when it makes you happy at the end. And when you pay full price, it's a bitter blow. Many here think your bed is gorgeous. Well, that is cold comfort when You yourself were looking for something just a little different. I know how this feels. I've had similar experiences, and they leave a bitter taste on the tongue, long after the initial disappointment. So, now you just need to dress the bed. I do think that if you get your entire room looking beautiful and feminine and amazing, you will come to terms more with the one aspect that is not exactly right. Try to think of the bed as a gift--a piece that was given to you by a dear friend.......not just what you would have chosen for yourself, but really pretty and something that will be amazing when you finish with it. And if you think you would love the distressed black/brown finish, then start pricing that now. Believe me, if you had the $$ to get the painting done, sent it out to be re-made, and got it back looking gorgeous.........you would not be still kicking over the paint finish. You would be wondering why you waited. It's just like these guys and wood cabinets. They fight women who want to paint their outdated kitchen cabinets because..... "It's real wood!!! for goodness gosh sakes!! You can't paint wood! Sacrilege!! But I have a News Flash. You CAN paint wood. And if it's Your wood cabinets, and YOU don't like them, and YOU can't make your kitchen look pretty while you stare into the depths of their woodiness, then, you most certainly CAN paint them! Really. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and fix what's broken, even if someone else doesn't get it.... Red...See MoreUpdate on my Mirrored Dining Table
Comments (10)Thank you all for your support.. I am disappointed but not crushed. I think I would be much more upset had I not gone through so much trouble with my iron bed-- which was a similar price and did not meet my expectations when it arrived. For the cost, I don't want to be disappointed. I appreciate that the seller gave me the opportunity and, in fact, guided me to pass on the sale. I have no doubt that I will find a table.. (Parma, sorry you are having problems emailing me. I did try some test emails from my other accounts and they all came through. Of course, that's not a great test because it seems to be an intermittent problem. I am getting some of them from you. Maybe it is because you are responding to forwarded messages?)...See Moretheclose
