I think something more like this look is what I'd prefer. Trying to match the color of the leather for a more subtle look. The issue will be finding just the right color so it doesn't turn out to be a clashing mess.

we have a sofa from almost 20 yrs ago with fabric cushions and a leather base- i really liked it, because it had the leather look with the comfort of the fabric- warmer in the winter and didn't 'stick' to bare skin in the summer! i think it would look fine if you reupholstered the cushions in a fabric- esp if you put a couple/few throw pillows on it too! (another advantage of cloth seat is the throw pillows 'stay'!)

i thought mixed pieces like that were 'coming back' anyway- i think i've seen some again in stores at least!

oh yes! That is a good benefit -- I am always annoyed with my slippery pillows!

I like the idea. A very subtle pattern, like a herringbone or tweed, might look more intentional and you wouldn't have as much worry about it being matchy.

You could find a wonderful throw, not like my Walmart one, and drape it over the cushions to avoid the expense.

I am paranoid about letting the sun shine on my leather sectional, besides just fading, did the sun do any other damage to the leather?

We took an old all leather sofa, that we had moved to the kids playroom, and had the seat and back reupholstered in fabric. The leather seat and back cushions were looking very tired. The outcome was terrible! The sofa used to be very comfortable, but when they reupholstered the cushions they messed up their design and comfort. We kept it for a few months while we ordered and waited for a brand new leather sofa for the playroom.
