Would you buy these (CL) sofas?
Comments (16):) dee you crack me up. I should have written that better! I bought my current sofa set - a love seat and sofa - about 8 months ago. I was about 1-2 wks away from having my youngest DS at the time. Einstien Moomjy was going out of business and I HATED the CL sectional that we had been living with for about 8 months. I wanted to try a sectional before I bought a new one. Boy am I glad I did! We hated it. So then I bought the set we have now at the going out of business sale on the way home from an ultrasound. It is terrible! the cushions are too long for the seats and so they hang over and squish around. They have the attached back pillows which are ripping already. I only have the 4 boys. 2 SS's (21 and 16) and 2 DS (3.5 and 7 months) The boys, the cats, and DH are very hard on furniture. I don't expect a lot. I think the ones pictured above with the back like that might last longer. I did call the seller and she said they were restoration hardware and from around 2002. I have off the next couple of days so I think I will go see them. I am making my DR a play room so the only thing in my family room will be the two sofas and two end tables (and of course random toys that make their way in there. So I think I will have room for them. I will measure though :)...See MoreTrying to cover bases before buying design
Comments (38)Thing is, you can't own a word. Yes, you can prosecute a person who tacks Architect after his name AS A TITLE on a formal document, but if the word is used in causal conversation -- as is discussed above -- you don't actually have a leg upon which to stand, and anyone who's using it in this "skirting the line" way knows exactly what he's doing, but you aren't going to be able to prosecute him. This is a frequent issue with "engineer" because people see it as a generic term kind of meaning "technical person". My husband has an engineering degree from a university. He is an actual engineer. However, during college I had a part-time clerical job in a construction company's front office, and they termed all their draftsmen "Drafting engineers". All of them were skilled draftsmen and knew plumbing (which is what they were drafting), but none of them had an actual degree. In the 70s housewives called themselves "Domestic engineers". We teachers see it too. I have a degree and a license from the state; I design curriculum in accordance with the state course of study, deliver instruction, track student progress -- everything an actual teacher does. Yet day care staff who have only a high school diploma and who do nothing more than hand out coloring pages are often termed "preschool teachers"; while their supervisors probably do have degrees and are overseeing curriculum, most of them are not teachers at all. Likely it's "a thing" in other arenas of which I'm unaware. Used officially as a title, yeah, see 'ya in court, Buddy. Note that JDS' official term even specified "title". Used in casual conversation ... eh, no; you'll not succeed....See MoreWould you buy this sofa?
Comments (16)Thanks, everyone! Maddielee, I would want to negotiate in any case, since there was also a low slipper chair and ottoman in the same fabric, and one piece in that material is plenty. I think they were probably from the sitting area in a bedroom in one of the big houses on Jupiter Island. Sorry about no photo, but the warehouse was definitely in walk-like-an-Egyptian mode and I had to lie on the floor to crawl around to get a view of the back to be sure there wasn't a big stain or rip back there. I couldn't get far enough away for a photo. Coordinating it is mostly a question of reorganizing my mind. The only other upholstered furniture in the room where it will go is a chair and ottoman that were last done in 1987 and are more than due for a redo. The hardest part for me is that in hot, steamy FL I tend to prefer pastel cool colors, so I have to do some serious thinking. (I'm renting while looking for a new house, so wall color doesn't matter right now.) But I've always liked Chinese red with spring green and gray so I'm sure I could figure something out. I think I've decided to wait a week and see. If I still want it and it's still there, then it was meant to be. ETA Yeah, I don't love mauve, either, olychick, but if it were blue enough and pale enough I could make it work....See Morebuying a Classic Leather recliner without seeing it.
