New rug.. Not sure about colors?

Here is my new 10x13 rug. It ended up being orange, cream, sky blue, khaki/sage and navy. I thought it was more rust, cream, teal, and navy. I still like it, the colors just weren't exactly what I expected.

Here's our entertainment center by it..

I still would really like to do a teal but would that look okay considering the rug doesn't actually have teal in it? Navy seems safer (I can find more pictures of it) but I'm really, really drawn to the warmth of jewel tones..

I think the rug is gorgeous! I love the colors. While I can't envision a dark teal with the rug, I do think that something like Sherwin Williams Hazel might be quite nice:

I like the colors, but it's a very traditional style of pattern. Does your decor lean toward traditional? It's difficult to determine based on the pictures you have here, but the trim on your entertainment center seems more industrial/rustic.

Yes, that is what I am afraid of also, Chispa. The rug isn't the least bit mustardy, but it looks so in most of the pictures. I am going to keep it until they grout. Had long talk with ID today and he is 100% confident that when walls are painted, furniture is in, all is installed, it will look just as it does in the pic of it i like. He's never given me bad advice, so I'm going with it. We may be redoing my son's two room suite for my mother next year, and she loves the rug, so it could always move upstairs :-) Scouring the factory for more fabric for swivel chairs, we are 2 yds shy of the amount required by Lee for COM. They haven't come back with the up charge on the banded hem yet, that should be interesting. Have def decided on black iron sconces and antique brass swing arm lamps, not gilded iron for either.

I think the wall color looks wonderful with your beautiful furniture. I suspect the darkness at night is a combination of the new paint color and the undressed window (the black hole effect that you mentioned). I would definitely look at replacing the light fixture with a chandelier and then consider adding extra lighting. Would you be willing to install wall sconces? How about finding a floor lamp for one of the corners? I think if you add in another layer of light that you will feel better about the room at night. Of course, once you add the window treatments and get some art on the walls and some accessories in the room it will make a world of difference. I think you are off to a lovely start and wouldn't rush to repaint just yet.

Hmmm... I actually like the color, but I see what you mean about how it looks up against your particular house color. It goes well with the porch floor, but not so much with the house. It's not so much that it clashes, but that it just blends in rather than contrasting. I guess the only solution is to paint the house! :-) You could also go really bold and paint the wicker a darker color, although I know that's not everyone's cup of tea. I would probably live with it for now, and play around with accessories. Can you add some more potted trees? How about a rug? Maybe throw pillows? I think if you brought in more color to create contrast, it could all be pulled together without changing the house OR the wicker.

I was shocked to see this thread today!! I logged on to get some Christmas inspiration and to ask questions about colors for the tree!! Kmcg - how in the world did I miss that gorgeous gal!! Nah, she doesn't look a bit naughty or a bit like Marley. Well, I haven't done a THING to my house - not even pulled out decorations. To answer the last 2 ? ...... The cabs were here when we built the house in a cherry finish. I had a painted come in and tape everything off & he sprayed the cabs & then glazed them. People really thought I was crazy for even thinking about painting new cabs ! - but I lived with them for 3 years and was still unhappy with them. The buffet, I had made very reasonably from a cabinet maker. It would be an easy fix for an existing buffet with 3 doors on the bottom. Just take off middle door & install the wine racks. It was originally painted a sage green & I painted it black after painting my walls green. Thanks everyone for your comments and compliments. I really appreciate it. Smiles:)

Rug looks very nice but it you arent 100% happy with it I would return it. I dont think the teal would work.

Aunt Jen, that's more the color I mean when I say teal!

Lisad, my style is traditional-ish.. I really don't think I've Pin-pointed my style yet. I love older homes, specifically Victorian and Craftsman era homes and plantation homes. But my husband likes masculine/rustic/clean lines. It's very hard to mish mash our preferences. I have kitchen pictures on my phone but I don't know about living room.

Rose I'm still considering that as well. I do like it, though. It's grown on me the longer we keep it.

Where did you find the pair of framed Chinese motif needlepoint (?) pieces on the wall behind the red sofa?

Jewelisfabulous I wish I knew! That was just an inspiration picture - I searched "blue and rust living room" on google images and that was one of the images that popped up!

Amber, if you like jewel tones then I wonder if this carpet is really ideal for you. It's a pretty rug but the colors aren't particularly rich and warm. Your inspiration pictures seem to hint that you like deeper, richer tones. I'd hate to see you settle for less than what you really like and then try to build your room around that. Of course, it's your decision and if you've grown to like the rug then there's no problem.

As long as the colors share a similar base tone (i.e. cool or warm) they can often be use together successfully and paint is cheap- do some foam core boards in the wall color you want and see how you like them with the rug.
