Is the doctor crossing a line? What do YOU think?
Comments (2)It's pure and simple 'Freedom of Speech'. He is entitled to his opinion. I watched an interview with him and he insists that he provides the best care he can to all comers and never refuses care to anyone. What he says and what he does are 2 different things. His talk may be obnoxious and cross ethical lines but certainly not legal ones. His walk seems to be OK. It's amazing the passion this watered down health care reform has generated. I have not seen anything like this since the days of the civil rights bill. I visited someone in Texas at the time when LBJ successfully cut of the civil rights filibuster and the anger and vitriol this generated was unbelievable. The Viet Nam protest also were of unbelievable intensity but probably do not fall into the same category of civil legislation. Today seems to be generate similar responses, totally unreasonable and fueled by who knows what. How can a senior politician (the Boner) call this legislation 'Armageddon'?! The USA, Western civilization and the whole rest of the world all reported for duty the day after the passage of the bill despite this dire prediction. It's been a great soap opera watched with amusement be the rest of the world. Nick...See MoreWhat do you think the new trend in kitchens will be?
Comments (26)Technology is opening some new doors. We can get backsplashes now that are customized with glass molded to order, or pictures we supply. This could explode into a whole new genre of customized surfaces. Kitchens today are surprisingly uniform - cherry/ss/granite/tumbled stone. It's time for a lot more uniqueness. First only the rich will do it, because it isn't very easy to sell a house with a backsplash of tiles that have your grandkids faces. It's going to take time to work out the possibilities, but I think it will spread. Kitchens will get a lot more interesting in personal ways, which will help offset the environmental and economic changes that are coming. Peak oil is going to make shipping granite and exotic timber really expensive sooner than we think. Counters from recycled glass or paper (Richlite) will become a requirement for the thinking and caring homeowner. True linoleum will look smart, wood will look wasteful. In the suburbs, we'll all need bigger pantries because we won't be able to afford to drive to the grocery store very often. We'll all be discussing ways to replace xenon/halogen/incandescent with LEDs and fluorescent. Sinks will evolve to accommodate water shortages and our big old farm sinks will look wasteful. The boomers are starting to downsize into smaller urban dwellings. Right now my KD friend at Lowe's tells me that the big lavish kitchens with lots of fancy woodwork are in the many suburban 'starter castles' that have sprung up recently. The focus is going to change to what urban Lowe's sell - smaller, more contemporary or sleek kitchens, or smaller kitchens that match the urban house's style - which is seldom French Provincial Grande, around here at least....See MoreWhat do you think of the new fabric line from Connecting Threads?
Comments (9)Well I purchased a kit from them with mixed results. The fabric which is suppose to be 44" wide isn't. The fabric cuts are short so a 1/2 yard was cut to 17" which became a problem and the directions to cut the strips needed the 44"wide fabric. And there was a lot of shrinkage. I wasn't overjoyed with the fabric which seemed dull in color. However I was in email contact with them and although not overly prompt in answering ( quilters have limited time a patience) they did offer to replace the shortened fabric. I carved the piece out but will think twice about ordering. Just my experience...See MoreSo what do you think of the new PB look?
Comments (38)amysrq, thanks so much for that link - their products are absolutely so interesting and unusual. What a fun way to add a small punch of color. I found several items there to consider and I was pleased to see the prices were very reasonable too. I wish I'd known about them before the holidays because I see lots of items I could buy my children for gifts - okay I need to remember for next year and their birthdays. Just look at those umbrellas and tell me that you wouldn't enjoy carrying one and using it during a gloomy rainy day? They make you smile, I'm buying one for myself and I may buy a couple for my umbrella stand. tryin2grow - thanks for the link and you deserve the applause. I'm like you, I think sprinkling a few of these colorful items around the house is playful- too much is well too much, but to pull out a pair of fun salad implements for a weekday meal or a funky mirror from your otherwise sedate purse just adds a touch of je ne sais quoi.
