Comments (37)Kevin, Can you tell me 2 things about your vanity? What is the open dimensions of the sinks? (width and front to back)? And, what is the width of the under sink cabinet portion (the part directly under the sink). Thanks! I'm planning 2 60" double vanities (for 2 bathrooms) and want to make sure I have right size cabinets and sinks....See MoreGlass tile: Store brand vs. Name brand
Comments (8)The tile looks very similar to our backpsplash tile (Artisitic Tile's Opera Glass Stillato pattern--we used Wolfgang White). I don't know how much quality difference there is, or who actually manufactures the different tile. When we were ordering our bathroom tile, I think the salesperson told us that there are only a few actual tile manufacturers, who then make the tile for the various "names" or companies. Our floor tile is sold as Atlas Concorde tile, but AKDO either makes or distributes the tile for them (or something like that!). Perhaps you could ask at the tile store who actually makes the tile you are considering (esp the one sold under the store name). Maybe they are both manufactured by the same company. As for vertical vs horizontal, it's really a matter of personal preference. I had it in my head from the start that we should have ours installed vertically, so that's what we did (DH liked it that way, too), but it would have looked just as beautiful hung horizontally. DH especially liked the waterfall effect of the tile coming down from the ceiling behind our hood/chimney, over the range (after I convinced him that we really did need to run the tile all the way up to the ceiling!). Good luck deciding! :-) Either color will look great in your sleek contemporary kitchen!...See MoreDifference in broken stone mosaic tile from big box vs. tile store?
Comments (3)Home center stores often carry brand names - usually a limited choice, but still great if you can find what you want. The one thing I will not buy at a home center store is a kitchen or bath faucet that will get a lot of use. The faucets even of the name brands like Delta are more plastic and often have a faux finish - looks like chrome or bronze but is just a plastic look alike. I have used home center tile and my tile installer, when I am not doing it myself, said he has no problem with home center tile. In general, he is very picky. I would watch out for the spacing of small tiles on mesh. I have not had any problems, but I have seen people, just today, have problems with penny tile and small hex tiles unevenly placed on a mesh and the tile setter did not bother to cut the mesh apart and make sure the tiles were evenly spaced. Those may have even been expensive tiles. The OP didn't say, but that is something to watch for no matter where you get your tile if using a mosaic or small tile....See Morecheap tiles vs expensive tiles
Comments (28)I ordered tile samples via South Cypress online. Can't say enough good things about them, and my tilers were impressed with the quality. Yes, because of shipping, I has to pay for the samples, but, hey, instant trivets! (Colors never look the same on line as in person.) I did get some of the wall tiles via Home Depot (Datile). But all the floor tiles came from South Cypress. Decent pricing available. No, I don't work for them.... EDIT Those huge tiles I am thinking is best to order locally... shipping would be a hassle....See Morelazy_gardens
