G. Scortechinii: One
of the many prostrate grevilleas is native to the granite outcrop district of
New England, NSW, from about Guyra north to the Qld border. Whilst it is rare it is no longer regarded as
endangered. Horticultural comments suggest it is relatively easy to propagate
from cuttings but I think better results might be achieved from grafting onto
reliable rootstock, such as G. robusta, providing the plant with a wider
variety of soil types in which to thrive; I have 2 grafted specimens growing in
red volcanic, slightly clayey, soil which is in contrast to it's natural habitate. So far they are thriving and just beginning
to flower. Unfortunately, it is not
presently available in garden nurseries, though some specialists in native
plants may be able to secure them.
