I have the Ivoire formula for Emerald matte on the can and it is correct according to the official recipe for Ivoire paint in a gallon (double checked). The base paint is correct too. But the gallon colour does not even resemble the paint chip or the Color-to-Go. When I discuss the mismatch gallon, I'm directly comparing the paint they gave me spread on the paint chip - and the gallon Ivore was not even close to the same colour as the paint chip. Quite truthfully, it is like a lighter version of Believable Buff - I'd accept it as a match for Believable Buff before I'd accept it as a match for Ivoire!! In terms of how the real Ivoire looks on my walls (the paint chip/Colour-To-Go version, not the mismatched gallon paint), I have painted Ivoire on a lot of test walls, so I have a good feel for how it appears in my house - yellow with apricot undertones and I absolutely love it. This faulty Ivoire looks like a kind of muddy/murky beige-yellow - not the same colour at all. I was flabbergasted when the gallon of Ivoire looked like an entirely different dingy beige colour - even the guy who mixed it thought it did not seem correct but he wanted me to take it home and see how it looked at home in the lighting it would be in.

Sorry, it was late last night when I sent you the two links. I understand the hesitancy. Simply white is the right undertone, but may feel a bit too yellow, a bit too colorful when you are looking at samples vs looking at an entire wall. I also get that painting trim and ceilings is not inexpensive and something you don't want to make a mistake. @Beth H. : is one of the pros who posts often on Houzz and I believe I remember some posts from her where she stated that she had used White Dove and re-painted with Simply White. I think she used it on her Trim, Walls and Ceilings, but maybe she will see this post and chime in. There is not a color out there that works 100% of the time in every home. There is a reason that I didn't pick a ready formulated white and used the color match to icing. Although it is very slight, the difference between Simply White and Icing is that Simply White has a bit of gray added to the yellow, where Icing has orange. Both are very light whites, both give you a touch of warmth to soften the feeling, but I notice the slightest green tinge in Simply White that I don't see when I use Icing. Simply White would be my first choice if I had to choose a white from one of the stock formula whites from BM or SW. I am not sure that anyone would see a difference if I would have chosen Simply White instead of Icing, but my OCD took over the decision making process. Do not test samples of paint on wall. Use poster board, or some small left over pieces of sheetrock, and paint them, and move them around the room, or rooms, in all different lighting situations. Its never wise to paint them on walls, since then you end up having to cover them up when painting, and it doesnt help with looking at the paint on other walls, and at all types of lighting.l

Norwood Architects, BeverlyFLADeziner, Patricia Colwell, and jackowskib, I will certainly look at the lighting set up - the natural light of the photo doesn’t help, and it’s true that we have all the other lights (floor lamps, side table, etc) in the basement with the furniture which we are moving back up this weekend. It sounds like all of those elements will help inform our choice. There are some additional ceiling lights hidden behind the photo frame but they do not help light the higher ceiling near the niches. Thanks Norwood Architects for your suggestion on adding more travertine - I don’t think we are up for finishing the entire end wall with more material right now (post-COVID remodel costs are higher than we had anticipated) - but I appreciate that lighting will help, and aesthetically, an entire wall of travertine would look pretty impressive! Perhaps next year! cat_ky and mxk3- once we have all the furniture in/lights in place, we’ll also consider a “real” color if the Origami still doesn’t work. I appreciate all of you so much!
