Why are so many posts showing up twice
Comments (12)My post made above at Jul 14, 12 at 22:46 came through to Hotmail instantly. hmmm....gremlins? Here is something interesting...I've checked the box earlier to get the replies emailed to me, yet now the message below says, "Check here if you would like post replies emailed to you. blah, blah, blah." Usually it tells to to click or something if you NO LONGER want email replies emailed to you. hmmmm......Well, I'll check the box again. I wonder if it did that because I am replying again so soon. Comments (71)My friends are out of town for months or even years at a time and I'm enlisted to go check on their place. One winter someone broke in. I had never seen a burglarized house before. I was shocked by how completely they ransacked, tore into, emptied, shook-out, turned inside out, spilled out, split open, yanked apart every thing they could. You could not move in the house without trampling on top of the household contents that were all over the floor, beds, chairs, tables, etc. It was a disaster. My neighbors really did not have anything of money value and most of their formerly valuable possessions are now old and undesirable. Nobody steals a tube TV anymore. Nobody steals a 20 year old computer. Nobody even steals a radio. Radio, what ancient thing is that? So when it comes to hiding your keys, I'd say their is really no completely hiding them from a determined thief. I wonder if some decoy keys set out in a somewhat obvious place, plus some sacrifice-able valuables left in equally obvious places could spare your better stuff, your well hidden better stuff. What do you think?...See MoreWhy Beets Don't Come Up (Trying This Post Again....)
Comments (6)I have thought of pre-sprouting, as Jake you know I keep my peas in moist paper toweling in a ziplock bag till I see the beginnings of sprouts, and I have had good luck with that as long as I handle them gently and look forward enough on the weather forecast before I start them sprouting so that I'll have a warmish day in which to plant. I used to believe people when they said you cannot transplant things that have long taproots (which includes beets) but when I started doing wintersowing I did discover same thing as you, dbarron, that if you do it early and carefully, it can be done. I've considered making some newspaper cups filled with potting soil, then pre-sprouting in a coffee filter, and slipping each sprout into one of those. The newspaper cups then can transplant right into the garden without the plants knowing any better. But seems awfully labor intensive for as many beets as I would like to grow. I started wondering if germination would be any better if the seeds were free of the "pods", and so I have been "playing" this morning with breaking open some of the beet "pods" and I'm finding hardly any that have little seeds inside. Some have actually some white powdery residue inside. Hmmmm. This could be actually the top reason why I might not have germination. These are seed "packed for 2018". So it's clear that there might be a point to actually cracking a few just to see what they look like inside, as a test. I'm using small needlenose pliers to gently squeeze the pods till they crack open so as not to harm any seeds inside, as might happen if I smashed the pods with a hammer, and I wear magnifying glasses so I can see the tiny seed better. I had in mind to try germinating some of these tiny seed after extracting from the pod and finding out how long it took. Now, I'm thinking I'd better buy some more seed, maybe a different variety, from a different source. *Sigh*....See MoreMy Ipad Doesn't Keep Up With Posts
Comments (10)sjerin - how old is your iPad? I won mine in 2014 and I don't have that particular problem. I do update but I've never cleared any history. There are times when i can't post a photo on this site but that's usually a Houzz issue. I'm getting a new iPad as soon as I figure out which one and then I'll leave my old one at our other house....See Moresushipup1
