Justin I would like to trade for a couple or so cuttings of your epiphyllum orchid cactus. I can send you a well rooted Clematis terniflora (Sweet Autumn Clematis) producing billowy masses of 1 inch wide, fragrant, creamy white flowers in late summer and fall. I will also include cuttings of Confederate Jasmine, (Trachelospermum jasminoides)with profusion of 1 inch wide clusters of fragrant white flowers. Propagate with Semi Hardwood cuttings. Thanks for all the info! I can always count on the folks here to point me in the right direction - I'll have to go check out the epiforums.com... I took my Epi out today to repot it into my own mix and - YIKES - the thing was a solid mass of roots. I couldn't loosen the old mix at all without using a knife, and I wasn't how sure Epis respond to having their roots ripped up (some plants do well with some root disturbance, others go into shock...) So I just took the whole thing and put it in an 8" pot (it came in a 6") and put my mix under and around the old rootball. Do Epis typically have such solid rootballs? I was amazed! hello Sagebrush36, yes, you can grow epiphyllum from seed, but it will take longer to bloom. Depending on where the seeds came from, there is also the possibility it will not be identical to the parents. Thats ok though, new hybrids are made all the time. There are many great sources for cuttings, trades tend to be the best for me (the plants have stories behind them) but I've purchased also. One source that sent me HUGE cuttings was (Don's)Epiphyllum World, I think maybe $3-5??? per. This is my EPI, I purchased it in a 8" hanging basket about 6 yrs ago. It's never bloomed. I recently took it up to the local greenhouse. They have one that's just beautiful. They treated plant for mites , repotted and fertilized for me. I keep it in the south window, per their suggestion. The plant they have is loaded with beautiful red blooms.This room stays around 67 in winter months. We live in Wisconsin. The soils is compose made at greenhouse with terra-Cotta pieces mixed in soil. The advise I've been given is from the local Greenhouse. She was kind enough to send me home with a small bag of fertilizer to feed plant, she also stated to mist all plants including this one with rubbing alcohol to kill mites. Do this for 2 weeks 1 time a week make sure plant is well misted. I'd love to see blooms on this beautiful cactus
