Personal users/review’s of Craftsman C3 19.2-Volt
Lithium-Ion 3/8-in. Drill/Driver Kit (before I use or return the tool). I purchased my last cordless tool in 2000 "vs this Gift" which was an 18 volt NiCad cordless 3/8” drill. “It Did The Needed Job” in the damp weather of installed a 4' X 20' tin sheet on a Car-Port . Actually I considered it paid for the cost of
the drill, to be able to finish in one morning in the damp weather. BUT! 4
Batteries later with very little use and not dependable, I went back to my
surplus of corded drills.

I felt the Lithium Batteries were the solution until I used
a Friend’s DeWalt’s Drill Kit with 2 batteries.
One was too weak and the other would not charge with little use. I want to say the lack of use is a
killer. My opinion working with Habitat
was too much use was a killer also.

On the lithium battery units, I highly recommend the Milwaukee M18. I have lots of stuff and would not go back to a NiCad. If you are an occasional user, you want to avoid keeping them in the charger forever. I think it best to keep them somewhat discharged. You have to watch what batteries that you get with whatever you buy as there are 1.5, 2, 3, 4 , 5 and I think even bigger AHs are available or soon will be. The plus is that the batteries all have the fuel gauge on them. Before you walk across the lawn to use the tool, press the button and your battery life is clearly shown. Home Depot has quite a few and they typically have good buys this time of year. You can buy "refurbished" quite easily to keep the price down too and the tools that I've seen have never been used. I know my time w/ Habitat it was tough to get a battery that had more than 20 minutes run time left in it. :)

- LOL, I feel both of us felt Home Depot donated all of
  their Returns to Habitat (True). Plus, Fun Work until I tried to match a Lady on Home Depot’s
  Team unloading/storing OSB and 2X4 to frame a house. I matched her on the number of 2X4s and 1/2” OSB
  Sheets for an hr before taking my hat off to Her. I was on Overtime since I worked ½ days on
  Wednesdays “Period” and she was just getting there. I saw this challenge
  and weather related off schedule need to stay. That was One Tuff Lady!!!

Cordless drills certainly can't deliver the power that a 20 amp outlet can. If you need that sort of power you'll have to stay attached to the wall. But the point of a cordless drill is not being attached to the wall. I realize that this thread started a couple of years ago, but battery technology is rapidly changing. Many people think they've learned certain 'truths' about batteries (memory, wearing out, temperature range, etc.), that actually only apply to certain types of battery designs. Batteries could last forever. We don't have any that do yet, but the newer lithium-ion batteries last significantly longer than the batteries of just a few years ago. The new Makita LXT 18v batteries will go through 2.5 times more cycles than a Ni-Cad batteries. In another 5 years it's hard to tell what we'll see. But there are some reviews of what's currently out there at the site in the link.

Just don't get De Walt stuff. I waisted over $600 dollars on them. I bought a set of 18V drill and circular saw and 12V right angle drill. All the batteries burnt out. Both charger do not stop charging when battery is full. I am not sure there were dirt blocking the charger but I don't notice it. Point is the batteries and charger are soo soo expensive, I end up buying a set of Ryobi for less than I would have paid for the replacement batteries. I see more and more contractors using Ryobi now a days just because it is cheap.( say disposable!!!) Ryobi drills chuck comes loose when use as a drill, works perfect if use in socket driver which is very important to me. I do earthquake retrofit, so it is pretty heavy duty work. Ryobi survive nicely. I dropped it from 8 ft. ladder more than ones, it's ok.( say cheap!!!) As for toys( more expensive, unnecessary ) I bought a Bocsh 14V drill.( of couse they are a little stronger for the same voltage) so I can have a lighter tool. You be surprise how important light weight is in some situation. Try reaching into a odd place, extend your arms all the way just to reach it, in a funny position. The 18V heavy tool suddenly became not that important any more!!!! Trust me, I have planty of times like this. It is not bigger the better. That's the time you really want to pay more for a low voltage, lighter tool. But if you are like me, do a little, spend a lot( it's a toy, need justification to spend money to get the best) try the more expensive ones, like Bocsh!!

Walt I did not even realise my 19.2 Craftsman set was made in China.I checked and you are correct.If I had known that I probably would not have taken the chance with it?But I am still glad I have it.I have the 1/2'' drill and 3/8 right angle drill set that came with a charger and two batteries in a blow molded case.I gave $100.00 for that set.I also have a 3/8 drill that came with a charger and battery and canvas case.I gave $30.00 for it.I also have the Sawsall another 1/2 drill and a flourecent light I picked up used at a auction for $12.00 and that drill looks like it was draged behind a truck well used. All of my other drills and a handheld 18 volt shop vac are Dewalt and YES made in China.I do have a Dewalt 9.2 volt that is older probably 15 years old I have not checked where it was made?If it was not snowing and cold I would go out and look.My problem with Dewalt is there batteries are to expensive. Craftsman hand tools seem to still be about the same quality as always.Except there ratchets I have some from the 70's and recent.I keep the old ones for the shop and gaurd them closley.The newer ones are used mobily just incase there lost.There not the same however still have a lifetime warranty.I have a old S-K ratchet set that is my favorite however. I use alot of Air tools and not so much electric.I recently had to replace my 1/2'' drive impact.I went with a Kobalt from Lowes im sure it came from China not sure?But it is the best I have ever had.

My wife got me a 6-piece DeWalt 18 volt set for my birthday. So far it has been great. I've used the 1/2" drill a ton. It is a little heavy so after a long project it can get tiring (i put a drywall screw attachment that countersinks the screw to the proper depth, and after hanging 3 sheets on a ceiling my arm was like jello, so I switched to a corded drywall screwdriver). The recip. saw has been pretty good. I've cut off a bunch of old copper drain pipe with it, and used it to demo a small wall. The battery did die fairly quickly when doing the demo. I was sceptical about the circular saw, but for light-duity work its prety good. I've cut through quite a few 5/8 sheets of plywood with no trouble. If you had to cut a lot of plywood you'd want a corded saw of course. It worked pretty well for my bathroom remodel The impact driver works well. Smaller and lighter than the drill so I often throw a phillips bit in it and use it for a screw driver (but depending on what you are screwing you need careful since it doesn't have an adjustable torque setting). plenty of torque - this can drive anything I need it to. The grinder is the last tool I tried out. I used the metal disc to cut off a few copper strips, and it worked well. I've also used a diamond tile blade to do a few cuts in tile. The battery didn't last that long. I think I'd rather have a corded tool and not bother with cordless. i noticed the first time I used it the safety didn't work, so I think I might call and see how DeWalt's service is. flashlight - it works, not much else to say about that.

I don't know about the Craftsman but I would agree with tomplum that the lithium batteries are much better than the NiCad.

My one suggestion would be to also get the Impact Driver. Personally I use the Impact Driver a least twice as much as the Drill. I have an adapter for my socket set and it is great for loosing and tightening nuts and bolts on my lawn mower, etc.
