The perfectionist in me
Comments (46)I just wanted you (everyone following this) that I headed to yet another appliance store today. This place had everything you might think up for your kitchen and beyond. Anyway, I took a look at the Bluestar rangetop and did a little comparison between it and the Wolf. I MADE A DECISION! I'm staying with the Wolf. Yes, the BS had an impressive burner, but what convinced me were the little details and finishing touches on the Wolf. ie. at the side of the griddle, you could see the soldering on the BS, the Wolf it was seamless. Also, the guy showed me the solid brass as he took off the burner on the Wolf. And he confirmed the BS was cast iron (though probably still heavy duty enough). All I know is yeah, I can rest assured I did my homework and made a good decision. Thanks all for your inputs!...See MoreHaven't vented in a looong time
Comments (14)Hey Love! It's good to hear from you and I'm really happy that overall things have been going so well. You must have been working very hard to get to the 95% disengaged and that is just great news. UGH to the storms. SS is terrified of tornadoes too, and they are not that much of a threat here because of the terrain. (We do have them, but they generally only hit four or five houses at a time, hop back up into the clouds, back down again - not like the areas where they leave a path of destruction for a mile.) We had one here about a month ago; I set SS a task of calming and explaining to one of the pets what was going on (pets all being in the cellar with us). So SS (as I'd hoped) told the pet all of the stuff I've told him - even if funnel cloud comes down it doesn't mean it's going to hit our house, even if it does it's likely to just take off roof or something and we'll fix it, even if it destroys most of the house we'll be safe in the cellar and we have insurance for everything else. It really seemed to help calm him - the more he repeated it to the pet the more he seemed to believe it himself. (We were fine- we had hail larger than golf balls so I was a bit concerned myself that time!) I think some parents do that because they don't have any friends. If I heard a scary noise, if I were hiding in the cellar because of a tornado warning, I'd call or text a friend for encouragement - not a kid! Great, kid can worry about me, but I'd prefer an adult who can see on the news that tornado hit my area and if I don't answer, can drive over to check on me. Does DH get along well with the teacher? Maybe they can both tag-team BM - teacher can tell BM that she's really hoping to be able to talk reason to her since DH doesn't seem to "get it", how important summer school is for SS, how teacher is optimistic that the child's mother (unlike his father) can understand that.....if BM thinks she's putting something over on DH she'll do it in a heartbeat. :-)...See MoreSo very sad for my husband
Comments (37)We are going through some of this with DS and DIL who married last year. DIL, seemingly overnight, decided she did not like us before they became engaged. There were some tribulations over the wedding plans and I felt she was rude and disrespectful on more than one occasion. My son would always come over alone, unless it was a holiday or special occasion. Then there is the issue of holidays.....they revolve around her parents and their schedule. I did expect this but not quite to such an extent. The year before last we were told that they could only stop by for about an hour or two xmas eve day in the afternoon for appetizers. Well, I had not planned on doing afternoon appetizers but I did anyway.....and then everyone was too full for dinner. I was not happy having spent the day preparing food. (They spent xmas eve and all of xmas day with her folks). So, this year I took a different tack. I say...this is what we are doing and when and we'd love it if you can join us. If it fits into their schedule, great. If it doesn't, that's ok too. I've just let it go. All last year, when we would see DIL I was cordial but kept my distance after having tried on several occasions to forge a better relationship with her and getting nowhere. Well, she is slowly becoming more pleasant with us. Don't know where her new attitude came from! She just had a surprise bday party for DS and I helped with alot of the stuff and she thanked me profusely...so I am hoping we are turning a corner....but not holding my breath. But, to answer OP, let it go. You may feel disappointed from time to time but it's not going to make for a happy family by making them feel guilty when they don't want to or can't participate. As others have suggested, ask them to get together another day or weekend....it's still several weeks away. Maybe they just want to start some of their own traditions. You need to be cordial and polite to D's IL.....but you don't need to be close....See MoreKick off 2015 with a GTKY
Comments (65)1. Did you make any New Years Resolutions? If so, have you managed to keep it/them so far? I actually didn't make one, but I feel unorganized lately. I want to make the best use of all my time so back to making lists for me. 2. What are you wearing? blazer, stripe shirt, floral scarf, jeans, and ...furry boot slippers. Will put boots on later. 3. Hows the weather in your neck of the woods? Snow. 4. What did you eat today? Banana. I need to eat after this. (Back to making lists for my food too!) 5. Do you celebrate Valentines day? How? Sure. I find in more recent years it seems so commercial to me that I feel almost silly to participate in the festivities. We'll probably go out for dinner though! 6. If married, how long have you been married? 7 years. 7. What is your favorite feature? eyelashes 8. What is the predominant color in your wardrobe? Black 9. What is your favorite board or card game? Pictionary always get us laughing. 10. What is the 7th song listed on your iPod or MP3 player? I don't know. I'm sure it's an Avenged Sevenfold song. I haven't listened to my iPod in quite a few years. 11. What time do you usually get up in the morning? Later than I should. I'm naturally a night person. 12. If you work outside the home, how far/long is your daily commute? Used to be almost an hour. 13. Where was the last place you travelled to that was greater than 300 miles from your home? Beach 14. Can you whistle a tune? Yes 15. Seahawks or Patriots? Doesn't matter to me. DH will cheer for the Patriots. I like football as background noise. (I'm serious.) I like sports, but don't want to watch them on tv. I think games last WAY too long. Hours and hours and then there's another game! I don't want to sit that long....See Morefluffybutt
