My Christmas card this year

Because I rehab possums, I used to always send out Christmas cards with possums on them. Don't laugh...you can find them on the internet, plus there is a lady in Washington state who designed all of the ones I sent out. But this year instead of sending cards, I donated to a friend who rescues horses out of kill pens...due to be shipped to slaughter in Mexico. But, I found this one, and I think it is kind of cute. Possums don't really have crossed eyes, but those raised in captivity will often develop a condition called "fatty eye" that makes them look cross eyed.

To you the same, Marilyn. I sincerely hope you have a good year in 2016 and that your DH is returning to good health. Bless you for all you do for animals.

That card is very funny. The critter's "hands" are up and it's leaning back as if to say, "noooooo!" The 'possum's reaction to Santa is similar to a lot of little kids.

Hi Suncook, IMHO I don't think any explanation is required, just send a nice card and wish them a Merry Christmas. Gifts are always optional, not required. I think quite a few people are "tightening their belts" this year to try to save for the uncertain economy. Best wishes to you. Luvs

Pezabelle, You are so right. When I see that other's are getting things painted, it makes me think I should get busy and do some too. And I love the variety we get on here, so many styles and preferences makes it so interesting. I'm in So. Calif. so can't really complain much about winter, but I do enjoy it when I can just have the music going and sit and paint away the hours,-- all nice warm and cozy doing something I enjoy. I need to get my next surface ready to go so I can get it painted. Seems to take me forever to get started even after I've picked out a pattern I want to do. Just get sidetracked too often and procrastinate too much! I'll look forward to seeing your painted tags. Luvs

Haiku is fun, even kids can do it. Even I can do it, and that's saying something! Yours are lovely. I like the first one. That's a wonderful idea for Christmas cards. When our mother died, my sister and I composed a haiku for her niche marker.

Yes.......my daughter hated Santa. I got pics of her with him when she was 2 mo old and at 14 mo. but after that, no way.

Possums grow their entire lives, but they have very short life spans. A wild possum only lives a year or a little over. The ones in captivity usually die from congestive heart failure.

Love it! I really like the expression on the possum's face. I didn't know they had such a short lifespan. My neighbor was always finding one drowned in his pool. Why would they go in the pool?

They probably fell in and couldn't get out. They can swim but it isn't something they would normally do. Maybe went to get a drink and fell in or chased in by a dog. Not sure, except I know they wouldn't get in a pool on purpose.
