Can't tell you if it'll look ok or not because there's no context. Were the windows on your plans/elevations?

Those are the only windows on that side of the house. Here is the master bathroom plan. I think it will look okay in the bathroom, but weird from the exterior. This is on the side of the house (attached that elevation as well).

I thought you were redoing your bathroom layout?

Unfortunately, we couldn't come up with a layout we liked enough and had all of our needs before he needed to put in the windows. I wanted to but it appears we are stuck with what we have :( My husband's only musts were a doorless shower and no pocket doors. I love the bathtub window but am worried about the shower window and how they look.

I did like this design a lot (prefer bedroom entry to closet), but I don't like a pocket door for toilet and I think the shower is too small to be doorless. I really want a large window over the tub. Just don't know how to make it work. Thinking about closing up that shower transom window since I don't like how it looks on the exterior.

Why does hubby want it doorless? Do you have doorless now? For me that would be the last thing I'd want because it's cold when it's doorless. The door helps keep the heat inside the shower.

Without the context of seeing the rest of the house, I think it looks fine. I give some leniency to sides of houses.

Our friends have a doorless shower and he loves it. I don't know. It is one of the few things he has requested in the house, so I figured I'd give in! ;)

Is it me or is the large window at the tub not on the elevation? Tough to tell the appearance without it showing, in my opinion.

It is not on the elevation. We added both of the windows, so I didn't really know what it looked like until he cut them. I love the tub window. But I am not sure about the shower one....

Care for any of what? The window over the tub or the shower window? I HATE windowless bathrooms, so I definitely want a window in there.

I don't mind them but I'm not thrilled with your bath layout. I played once more and in this case I moved the large window over and removed the transom window. Your shower is the same length but it's just a bit narrower. My shower now is 3' x 6' and is actually almost too large. Your closet is wider but not as long. Your vanity is much longer and your tub becomes a 32" wide tub instead of a 36". For a soaking tub 32

Actually if you want a second window, you could do it between the two sinks in my version.

cpartist - I LOVE that! What kind of door is on the toilet room? Could we do a normal door? Thank you so much!

I actually want a center or side tall cabinets around he sink to hide all the stuff I don't want the kids into, so this would give me that room too.

Dreamhouse, you could use a door that swings both ways in and out. That's what I have now and in my new build, I'm doing the same thing but the center panel will be frosted glass to let in more light. My builder called it a saloon door on the plans so they understood it swung both ways.

The other thing you could do is pull the wall even with the closet wall and then make a pocket door for the toilet room.

What type of tub are you anticipating getting? That would help determine the space too.

What is the exact width of the room from the window to the opposite side?

No shower 'needs' a window, and they will deteriorate.

I suppose you can always add a glass shower door if you decide you want one. I would, even though they are expensive ($2K - $3K).

Is the tub window high enough to clear the top of the tub?

I rather doubt you can change the plumbing layout at this point without big expense.

Chisue, I don't see any plumbing roughed in yet in the photo and I believe she said she's on a crawl space so she probably can change the plumbing.

We just finished our build and we wanted a walk-in shower without a door. My thinking was, less things to clean the better. I never thought about how cold it would be. It is freezing! It's hard to shave with legs covered in goosebumps ;-) My husband says it fine. If we hadn't gone over budget as much as we did, I probably would insist on getting a door installed.

I have an idea. Put the shower door on, and if DH wants to shower without a door, let him just leave it open. ;)

How tall are your ceilings? I like cpartists by far. Your vanity will be so cramped the way it's originally drawn and you have room to make it better! Can you do transoms above the vanity? They look like they'd match the windows you have in the bedroom there. You will appreciate the natural light. We have a window between our vanities so no tower but if you do use one I'd try for a transom above. I love the light it gives and we vent it all the time. We have 9' ceilings.

From the inside:

Second thing - you'll be looking at it from the inside a whole lot more than the outside so I'd not ditch the windows - especially with them being on the side of the house. JMO.

Also I'd try to layout the shower so that you could add a door later without too much trouble if you hated it open.

I like cpartist's re-do of the bathroom, a LOT, if that's not too late...

That's a good idea to have a curtain but I believe her husband was hoping for a completely open shower which seems to be a newish trend.

IMO any window arrangement would look better than no windows on the exterior facade.

I'm curious why you haven't drawn the new windows on the elevation or photographed the openings from the outside and sketched the new windows. The important issue is the configuration of the window sizes and mullions so they don't look like they were an afterthought. I don't see anything about the openings that would prevent that but words should not be a substitutive for drawings in this situation.

We have a transom window above our shower in our current home. It's high enough that the water doesn't splash it nor can anyone see into the shower. It frames the trees outside the window beautifully and provides some natural light in the shower. We haven't had any problems with it leaking or getting moldy. As for the open shower see if you can arrange for your husband to try one out on a cold day. After he does so he may just change his mind.
