Thermador induction cooktop questions
Comments (38)lilyfreak, I also live in Canada and we just put a deposit on the silver-mirrored Thermador for our new house which will be ready this summer. We paid $2650+tax. It was actually a couple hundred dollars cheaper last year, but I guess prices have gone up with our dollar dropping. I haven't actually used the Thermador, but I've read the user manual. Unlike some cooktops, changing temperature is a two-step process. You have to select the burner that you want to change the temperature on. Then you have to slide the temperature up or down within 5s. If you don't, the burner will turn off. So the burner doesn't actually turn off if you change the temperature (sliding back to the same temp should be ok as well). I linked to the user manual if you want to have a look at it for clarification. To be honest, I didn't do extensive research which I guess isn't that smart for an appliance this expensive (the silver-mirrored finish is about $500 more then the black version!). But in my opionion, it is the best looking induction cooktop out there (I think the finish is nicer than the silver Monogram) and it will be the centerpiece of the kitchen. Hope it works as good as it looks! Here is a link that might be useful: Thermador user manual...See MoreThermador 30' induction cooktop (CIT304E)- silver mirrored finish
Comments (15)Buyers beware. I purchased the Thermador 30" induction cooktop in March 2010 for $2,299 plus tax. The cooktop had problems from day one. The problems ranged from being only able to use one burner at a time to none of the burners working at all, and various error messages appearing each time. The service from Thermador was deplorable. Even though the repairman said that the problem was there from the beginning, Thermador refused to cover the labor because we just passed the one year warranty. It did not matter to them that family circumstances prevented us from being able to repair the cooktop sooner. The repairman got the burners to work, but now there are strange vibrating noises. On top of that, it took more than a dozen calls just to get the repairman to show up. Thermador could care less about their reputation. The repairman said that the cooktop has so many potential spots for error, and that these tops are extremely complicated. I suspect I will be replacing my cooktop in less than a year (because it doesnt work), and I will definitely not go with Bosch/Thermador....See MoreBosch vs. Thermador induction cooktops
Comments (32)Free standing 36" Gas (not dual fuel) 4 burner plus griddle convection oven/range. Monster. There were thermadors I had experience with that were 15 years old and never a problem. So, during a remodel of my current home, I bought another one. Loved it, bought it, regret it now. Of course, I didn't do my research before jumping and buying another Thermador. That was my big mistake, and boy am I wearing it. Boyyyyyyyy am I wearing it. . . . . . Come to find out I'm not the only one now with a very, very expensive "heap." (grin) Guess I'm now one of thousands and thousands of people who made this mistake. Don't get me wrong - monster wonderful range. Awesome centerpiece. . .when it works! Does everything with amazing speed, and wonderful lines, beautiful style, a dream to cook on! But gawd forbid if you need service. You are in for a terrible, terrible experience. And of course, when you need service is when you are under pressure. Like ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, thanksgiving? (grin) That was just the latest adventure. Delivery damaged it. They "crushed" it like a tin box with the straps (unboxed it to get it through the only functioning door.) Getting replacement panels was a horrendous problem. Months and months. That was my first indication that there were going to be issues. Then one board went, then another circuit board went, and now another board seems to have gone out. (I suspect the same circuit board, again.) No "certified" technicians in the area, either. Search on their site, and there aren't any qualified service people within 120 miles. Search for dealers, and there are 12 within 25 miles. Have a sub zero fridge (known cooler issue), and a bosch dishwasher (known motor problem, fixed immediately). When both needed service, I had not a single problem. Quick, knowledgable, efficient. The complete opposite of my Thermador experience. Had I known, I would have gone with a Wolf or a Viking. All options being about equal in that price range, I liked the lines and style of the Thermador better and went on prior experience. Just understand, if you choose Thermador, you are rolling the dice. Want to know what is really angering? As I was sarcastically laughing last time about the $700.00 circuit board, saying that I should have gone with a Wolf or a Viking, the repair person told me that Viking and Wolf parts are readily available here, at a fraction of the cost. He even told me Viking parts are available from Sears. Pouring salt into an already open wound. Ohhhhhhhhhhhwuh! Thanks a lot! (grin)...See MoreThermador, Miela & Jenn-Air 36'' Induction Cooktops
Comments (14)Yes Soly, the red aura is the inner workings of the top when powerfully lit from above. I saw a little red on a Miele in a showroom, but the Kitchenaid I saw recently was alarmingly red. When my hood light is on I can look closely and my Gagg hobs are slightly burgundy, and if I peer down I can see a tiny bit of the workings in red. I don't know if the showroom lights were way more intense than a home hood, but the KA I saw really turned me off. You didn't have to be right above it to see it as you need to be with mine. There's no difference when it's operating...you know it doesn't glow red-hot like an electric smoothtop. Mine always appears black unless you're searching for the reddishness. The Thermador I saw in the showroom didn't seem to glow red either. And it looked really cool. But not as cool as the silver one! The Thermador was a top contendor...I just got a great deal on a fully warranty-ed discontinued Gagg for about what I'd pay for a GE...and I LOVE the knob! Maybe take a flashlight to a showroom and pretend to be a hood? Have you checked out the Bosch's? I think they now have the shut off timers, and Gagg, Therm, and Bosch are all made by the same crew. BTW, had a service check on my Gagg (5 year warranty!) and the dedicated Gagg/Therm/Bosch guy came out in his cool Bosch van. It was SO refreshing to have a tech actually know the product in and out. He says he responds to very few service calls on the induction units...just "is this what it's supposed to sound like" calls like mine. I'm sure it's the same with the Miele dudes. You'll love it no matter which you select!...See MoreJakvis
