IKEA cab question
Comments (24)I contacted the cabinet installer (from IKEA, their regular go to people), and they responded to ask about my timeline for install but not really to discuss the ins and outs about pulling the cabs forward. They install IKEA kitchens day in and day out, and came well recommended, so have faith they are handy with them and experienced enough to pull it off. I was so grateful to have the pics to show dh tonight and he likes the idea of bringing them forward too. I had planned on finding out feasibility before killing him with details, but it seems like it is doable, so brought him on board. So, if a 2 x 4 gets us 1.5", do we do 2 and go to 3" or use another size board? I have to thank GW because over time, I'd see people talk about going with deeper counters and loving them, but not so often lately, and I had it filed in the back of my head, just in case. This is the only run that backs on a wall, and we did not think we'd have the room until we had the extension on and we marked on the floor where things will go. Our architect was a loosey goosey on measurements (a nightmare!), so I was operating blind in some regards when planning the new layout. I was careful, so I am ending up having bigger clearances than my worst case scenarios and it opened up new possibilities. Without GW, my kitchen would function half as well and would have missed out on some of our fave parts! You guys rock!...See MoreSub-Zero Pro 48 stand-alone
Comments (22)I think in your case, you can go either way. In Rocco's first example, I actually don't like how they frame the top of the fridge because it is unnecessary. The room has a very tall ceiling and there are no top cabinets there. So the extra cabinet looks a little odd. Also, it throws off the symmetry to the floating shelf on the other side. In the second examples, it looks much cleaner. and i think it's perfect. So I think if there are no tall cabinets, you shouldn't frame it.. But if you do, then you can go either way. In Redlover's example, there is some tall cabinets on another wall, but I still think it looks a little odd because the wood frame has no function, it's not reallya cabinet. However, I think the wood framing provide stylistic unity for the kitchen. Since in that example, the kitchen is not going for modern, but going for more elegance. So, besides having top cabinets or not, style of your kitchen is also a consideration. Frameless is a little more modern, clean, it may even feel a little commercial. But the frame maybe necessary if you have a more "elegant", "traditional" kitchen. In your case, I think you can go either way. I'll probably not frame it since the frame probably won't provide usable storage, unless you are going for the elegant look.. then frame it. Lastly, looking at your kitchen layout, your main sink is very far from your range and the fridge. So, you can only use that for cleanup purposes. So your prep sink near the fridge became extra important and you will spend a lot of time preping there. It's a bit hard to see exactly how big of a prep sink you have but it look a little small from the rendering, esp if you get the kind that it's narrow on the side of the faucet. I'll advice getting a sink that is "normal" size, wide, and shallow for your prep sink. I am adding a photo of how we do it in our kitchen .. we have a very small kitchen but we lean toward modern and clean look. So we need lots of cabinets and we have to frame it. Here is the "wall" behind my island (w/sink). I haven't done my Kitchen reveal yet since i'm still waiting for my combi steam oven to arrive (see hole above oven) This post was edited by noopd on Wed, May 1, 13 at 23:51...See MoreThose using IKEA cabs: how did you upgrade the look?
Comments (35)Dawn, I was just admiring your kitchen plan, and I noticed something on it you may want to double-check. If you are planning on doing IKEA doors (didn't you say Lidingo?), I am fairly certain that the 3-drawer base does not come in 24", and the corner cabinet does not [yet] have a glass door, though I believe I read that there will be one in the future, and that can always be changed out. (A very nice thing about IKEA cabs!) Anyway, I just wanted to pass that info on to you....See MoreWolf/Subzero Carbon Stainless (w/ black ctp. & white cabs)
Comments (0)Getting ready to finalize cabinets and appliances. I am getting offered a great deal on Wolf carbon stainless 36 inch undercounter wall oven (with 36 inch wolf induction up top) and subzero carbon stainless fridge. I am thinking of pairing those with white cabinets (Ikea; lidingo series) and black granite countertop. I will be paneling the dishwasher (Miele) with white cabinetry. I think this may look super cool, but then again, maybe not? Can anyone picture this? If so, does it look good??? :)...See Moreschmip
