Tomatoes don't need sunlight to ripen. Put them in a paper bag, at room temperature. If they were physiologically mature, they will ripen indoors.

I think the OP is saying that they brought the plants inside not just the fruit. Either way they should ripen, but with cool temperatures it may take awhile and the skin will probably be thicker and tougher than if ripened at ideal conditions.

Ah ok.... I still think the warmth would be much more important than the sunlight, for the mature green tomatoes to ripen.

I'm not sure the fruit is ready to pick yet - 2" Viva Italia paste toms seem small.

I too have several tomato plants that I started from seed in early Sept. My goal is to have a kick start on spring for the longer days to maturity plants, like Black Sea Man. Here in Phoenix, we have a very short growing season as triple digit temps begin in May but the ground is not warm enough to transplant until early March.

I cannot answer the OP's question directly but I think they need to be outside as much as possible, or under grow lights. My setup is quite portable so I have been bringing them in on cold nights and put them back out in the sun during the day. HTH somewhat.

Cross posted with Peter......when I kept the 'portable' setup indoors for more than two days, the leaves on the plants started to yellow severely. Back outside and they have greened up again. Peter's key word is *mature* green tomatoes.

IDK about growing tomatoes to maturity in the winter, transplanted into a pot.... better off IMHO hoping to get the best out of the mature tomatoes you have.

As noted, tomatoes don't need sunlight to ripen. Warmth is a lot more important than sunlight. EVERYTHING slows down with lower temperatures. In fact, that's exactly why we keep picked veggies in the fridge. To keep them from overripening.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I'm glad to know that they will ripen inside, though I'd guess that sunlight would contribute to their taste. In the case of the Viva Italia tomatoes, when I grew them last year they were fairly tasteless, and I wasn't going to grow them again until I happened to fry one in some oil. It took on a really great taste that I remembered from when I was a kid. So we'll see if they have the same taste whenever they ripen indoors.

Sizewise, some of these are larger than the ones I grew last year, Probably from the constant water supply in the wicking pots. Some are smaller, some just starting out, and there are even some blossoms. The fruit haven't show any color change yet
