Great Candy Pot

Have an old, great iron pot I use for candy - 8" across top, including narrow lip, 5-1/4" tall/deep. The 7-3/4" handle is heavy wood except for 2-1/4" of iron where it's connected to and part of the pot. At the end of the handle is a heavy metal 3/4" piece shaped exactly like a doughnut, and this screw is the problem. Even though I have tightened it with pliars, it does not hold, and when the heavy pot is tipped for pouring the handle turns and one loses control plus tries to keep from being burned.

Should I try to completely remove the rod with screw end in the handle, perhaps clean it, and then try to re-glue it in the handle? The pot is too heavy for me to hold when pouring, and every time someone tries to hold the hot pot while I scoop out the goodies......well, it doesn't work without an argument.

Your advice is appreciated. ............. Pink
