Trillium recurvatum (Purple Trillium)

Trillium recurvatum (Lily Family) is found in moist,
woodland soils in the areas shown on the BONAP map below. Specimens grow to more than 12 inches tall. Its leaves are in a single whorl of 3,
short-petiolate, and often splotchy.
Flowers have recurved sepals and 3 maroon petals that are tented over
the stamens. The flowering period is
Apr-May. Although these plants usually
have maroon flowers, rare examples have yellow flowers (f. shayi). The photos below show examples of both forms.
