Picture of Roses that you've had for a long time?
Comments (7)You can hybridize , or grow open pollinted seedlings from rose seeds. Please be aware , they will not be a exact replica of the roses you are currently growing(unless of course they are species).. some will be marginally terrible, some will be complete dogs, others might have habits you are not looking for, or terrible desease resistance. The chances of finding a true gem out of the bunch will be small.. like with any hybridizing adventure, however Im not trying to deter you from it, its always fun to see your own babies, and that 1 out of a 1000 times you look at something and its developed the attributes you want, is a very rewarding experience regardless of the genus you are trying. Comments (6)This year, I really enjoyed these combos: Purple & yellow: The yellow blossoms of trellised french melons surrounded by light purple spikes of anise hyssop, bright orange calendula, and two-faced johnny jump-ups. The bumble bees *adored* the anise hyssop. Green & white: The delicate green & white striped fruit & foliage of "Fish" hot peppers underplanted with a carpet of spreading white sweet alyssum. Hope these inspire you. Also, be sure to check how tall your marigold will get. I interplant the 6" dwarf ones & use the 3' monster as background & edging. My favorites are the 12" ones - perfect sized companions. Michelle (bushpoet)...See MoreSweetest Cantaloupe you've ever grown?
Comments (8)Goddess and Athena, when picked before they turn mealy.. 65 days. First picking will be ones closest to hill ctr. When grown with ample nutrients.& With compost you will experience one of the finest taste sensations available another one to try is sugar cube which is a personal size 1-2 ..pounder.......pounder.....there are newer hybrids coming out being sold in netting by trade names sugar kiss and honey kiss bred by savor farms LLC. These melons offer incredible flavor if bought before over ripening buyer beware mealy melons are a disappointment ...... Good luck ....submitted by farmer Phillip southern Maine market gardener...See MoreRoses you've had that you miss the most.
Comments (76)Low-phosphorus & high potassium and high calcium helps with FIRM PETALS and long-lasting blooms. We had hot & dry weather in August & Sept. so I tested high phosphorus SOLUBLE MG for roses at NPK 18-24-16 .. it was disappointing with Evelyn canes became slender like thin wires, plus elongated canes, plus smaller blooms, and Evelyn blooms went from 5 days in the vase to only 2 days !! I reversed the damage by topping with solid bio-char (65% calcium and 10% potassium), plus topped with horse manure (for trace elements & more calcium & potassium). Evelyn's blooms in Oct are larger & firm petals which last 5 days in the vase. Below is Evelyn when I tested sulfate of potash & gypsum (calcium sulfate) during hot & dry....See MoreSara-Ann Z6B OK
