I would call it a vanity table. It's kind of a combination with the drawers. It's really a nice piece no matter what you call it. :)

Omg I love it. I have a very similar dressing table but I do call it a vanity also. The piece looks totally original, mirror is exactly as it should be. So few are left intact because it became very popular to cut the two drawer sections off to be used as 2 individual bedside tables or end tables. I have one I got that had been cut apart and my husband with his great woodworking skills recreated it for me and I love it too.

Why are you selling it? If I was near by it would be mine. You don't live near Houston do you?

If lindac is around, she'll have a pretty good idea of what it is....getting a general idea of value though is tough. I would recommend taking it to an antiques dealer.

Just out of curiously, do you know what you're going to ask for it? What is your general location, what state?

I find it pretty, but very strange. If it's a woman's vanity table, how would anyone pull up a chair? It's not made for that purpose, doesn't seem to me. I wonder if it's meant for a man's use.

Oh yes, check out this 'Gentlemans Dresser' ! That would make it even more unique, I would think.

I have never heard of it called gentlemen. I have had both of mine for years and have always heard them called dressing table and vanity table. I don't think it is for pulling up a chair to rather to dress in front of. You can still see full length in the shorter mirror. Most of them would have a beautiful glass oil lamp sitting on the two sides to light up the mirror, not for applying makeup.

The type we always called gentleman's is this type with the mirror on one side.

I wonder if the brackets and the mirror are not original to the piece, which could explain the mirror's too small size, They appear to be a different color too, but maybe that's the photo? I'm not sure the style of the mirror frame matches the rest of the piece, it's subtlely different.

The carving on the lower part of each mirror brackets is different from the other. I could be all wet with these comments, it's hard to see from the photo.

The mirror length looks stylistic to me. A lot of dressing tables of that era have a similarly mounted mirror, though often of a more interesting shape, such as circular or hexagonal.

As to what I'd call it, my first reaction (though it's only a guess) is Grand Rapids. :)
