I love the look of the short shag too (Frieze) and would have gone with that if it had been an option with our builder. Instead, we got a multi coloured berber type (a closed loop). I'm worried that while the colour will be awesome (multi colour being better at hiding marks), that the Berber will show wear easily on the stairs. My last house had a nice thick cut pile wall to wall carpet with a thick underpad. Cushy underfoot but I did find that it had a bit of a sheen and I could see traffic patterns as well as vaccuum marks. I was looking for a shag area rug, and the dealer said to try pulling on the strands (I was worried about the baby eating bits of carpet). If they come loose, don't choose that type (and some actually did). I also noticed that some of the twisted strands unravelled. And would require clipping, I was told. No thanks!

I posted pictures of the carpet and colors we are thinking of for one of the rooms. But I don’t know what color to paint the rest of the house on the first floor which has cherry laminate floors. O did carpet upstairs because I like it on the bedrooms and staircase because of my dogs.

What color u like? Off white, gray owl? Teal, yellow??

I recommend Miele. It's not cheap, but it was one of the recommended brands for our new plush carpet. The carpet manufacturer should be able to provide a list of recommended brands/models to use with their carpet. I was able to find mine on the specs for the manufacturer online.
