New! And would like countertop opinions, please!
Comments (10)nini, it sounds like you and I are doing the same kitchen. When you say marble, do you mean white marble? I wanted the old timey white marble with gray streaks look, but didn't want the problems that go with marble. There's a quartz, the real stone not engineered/manufactured, also called quartzite. It has the look of marble, but is bullet proof like quartz. Mom used it in her kitchen in the thread linked below. Her post with pictures is a little ways down in that thread. I priced it in our area and the real stone was a lot cheaper than the manufactured quartz, plus to me it looks a whole lot better. I couldn't find a manufactured quartz that didn't look manufactured. Here is a link that might be useful: Quartzite that looks like marble...See MoreOpinions Please. Microwave on countertop.
Comments (15)I know its not PC on here to admit it but I have a microhood with a 36 inch range top and it is great. I think it looks fine but that is just my opinion. I didn't want to put it on the counter and thought of mounting in an upper cab but we lost so much space that way. I did mourn the loss of a gorgeous range hood, plus the power of it as well but it was the best solution for our small galley kitchen. I do LOVE my double ovens and would not would have wanted to lose it to micro or even a speed oven. It is one of the few 36 inch models out there however and they tend to be expensive. I do vent it to the outside and so far it has been fine. I do live in Southern Cali though so if it gets a bit smoky, i just open the side door which is a few feet away from my cooktop. Don't know if I would have done this option if I lived in say, Minnasota and couldn't open my door half the year!...See MoreBest countertop edge to look 'thick', opinions please!!
Comments (15)aedevm , about your first post: squared edge and eased edge are the same thing, the same concept, expressed by two different people with different levels of expertise. Basically the same thing, not worth analyzing. The salesperson's idea of 1/2 bullnose is similar because it is not finicky and fine detailed. Something brutish and not curlicued. Coarse not fine. Large not small. It costs less to miter 2cm and the visual effect is the same result. You don't need to purchase 3cm. -- I got 2cm and made it look thinner. I had them remove the lower 1 cm by reverse bevel (and polish), and on the top half I had them do a 3/4 bullnose. This thin counter still looks big and beautiful. With the receding slant on the underside of the counter, our fingers can reach the drawer fronts more easily. The pulls are hidden under the big counter overlap (the pulls are on the top edge of the drawer fronts). All our drawers were installed at a higher level than they would have been, if we had built a thicker counter. More space. And everything is higher and thus easier to reach. Perhaps at some point in the not so distant future the artificially thicker counters will look like someone had a mental model in their mind that they couldn't get rid of no matter how much it interfered with ergonomics and function, and it will be perceived as something not to repeat in new kitchens. HTH...See Moreyour opinions please - backsplash/floor w/green countertops
Comments (16)Once mocking it up, I see your Fog more with the counter than your Platinum. I still like the green/blue Kiwi for the bs best followed by the Khaki. The Fog seems a little too perky/powdery IMHO. The Kiwi seems more conventional and the Khaki is more edgy. I think the Kiwi will highlight the yellow olive tones more. The Khaki will make you notice the blue-teal shades. I tend to go with cool tones, so for me to have picked the floor choice in a more tan/orange is a departure for me. My kitchen is white/gray/black/lavender/chrome, so you can see where my color scheme heads... I like the "Madrid Brown" from your website of the Platinum because it plays up the orange of the cabs and the small parts of it in your stone. I did not want the same color as your cabs though because that could be dark and monotone when paired too closely. I'd definitely get your stone installed before picking the bs and then pick your paint color last....See MoreWendy
