tell me about wallpaper....

In our self-managed co-op apartment building, we're going to be wallpapering the lobby and the lower stairway.

The last time we did this, they picked a paper that's HORRIBLE, aesthetically, in terms of how it fits w/ the golden/brown stone on the wall, the greenish terrazzo on the floor, and the style of the building. It's a black-on-cream toile farmyard scene, and it just takes over. And it's very French Country in our neo-Georgian room.

I heard they chose it because they were getting some great deal on ultra-expensive wallpaper.

I want to suggest some other styles that fit the style of the building more, but I'm having trouble figuring out how much money I'll need to spend and how to tell if a wallpaper is pretty good. We won't want to do low-end, but I'm hoping we won't need high-end either.

So--how can I evaluate the quality of wallpaper?

Can you suggest an online source for decent paper?

Is there a place you can figure out how many rolls you'd need? Or techniques?

And can you suggest any source to explain Georgian or neo-Georgian decor or wallpaper choices?
